"WHAT IS THE LAW?"

I was told by a police officer the other day that it is illegal to remove the doors from a newer Jeep(2004 Rubicon) because they are sold as standard equipment on todays jeeps and must remain in place. He said it is ok to remove the doors on an older Jeep because the doors were sold as an option. This doesnt seem right to me. I have owned  both a 76 CJ7 and a 76 CJ5 and feel incredibly safer when driving my new Jeep down the highway. Does anyone know if there is a law that would reflect some light on this. I live in BC Canada, Im sure the laws would be different all over.  Its going to be a long summer if I am ticketed every time I am spotted without my doors. Any info will help. Thanks. Happy Jeepin.

Have you thought about useing HALF doors? Maybe the police would accept that.

The po po don't have anything better to do. It amazes me how some cops wanna gripe over trivial crap. Catch a robber po po, leave us alone

I'm almost certain that you can remove the doors on ANY vehicle and not have any problems.

I was pulled over in my K-5 Blazer sitting on 40's with the top off and the doors gone(too much body damage...couldnt close them) in the state of New Germany(N.J.) by a Statie who could'nt even see into the truck, and the only thing i got a ticket for was taillight being DIM! It was registered in PA., but that never stopped them before!

Check your state statutes for any further info....but i think he's just crushin' your stones.

GOOD LUCK!

In Illinois, the whole rub with the doors off is the mirror catch. It is state law that a vehicle must have at least 2 mirrors to see behind them.  I've just ordered my mirror conversion ditty that will put them in the door hinge - and I'll give some feedback if I have to explain the law to any lawmen and women!

You can put one mirror out the driver side and the other can be our rearview...some people in my area run with just the rearview and have no trouble!

Happy wheel'n

I have heard of the door law in Canada, as the officer stated.

don't know if those halfassed aftermarket doors count, but they should. Jeep says the doors and roof are not made to contain an occupant in a crash, so they can't realy claim there is anything special about OEM doors.

In Michigan you need an outside drivers mirror, and 1 other for 1/2 ton and lighter. Heavier, you need an outside mirror on both sides.

don't know about doors in MI, I'd assume your safe. but I'm sure if you run across some cop on the rag your never "safe".

I belive as long as u have a mirror on the driver side  and a rear view u will be fine. and u can run no doors only on the jeeps with the lip on the bottom so if u have a mirror on driver side door and its a wrangler u will be fine. at least thats what i know for washington state.
