spacer lift

I'd like to get a couple of extra inches under my TJ tank - it ticks me off that it hangs so low. Not only looks like a kid with a full diaper, but means driving over logs is pretty much out. I have a few options - gain an inch with a new tank plate; go for lift spacers, go for a real lift, or a combo of all. It seems that the tank plate is good, but there's a lot of work - dropping and refitting the tank. All for one inch, plus of course somewhere to land, which is useful. Spacers seem simple, cheap and easy, but how do they ride? Will they affect handling - is there more roll? Will the body keep going in a relatively mild front-ender? I don't like the look of a big open wheel well, and all the space around the chassis, and so true lifts over 2" don't appeal; I don't have plans to run tires over 31". Lastly, cash is a real factor.

Any thoughts?

i would get a small suspension lift.those spacers are junk.they made my tj ride like a lumber wagon.everything rattled.u could always get a piece of plastic and mount it over the tank,so it will slide over things easyier, would be a cheap way to try to get what u want.but i would stay clear of the buget boost spacers, they are just like using hockey pucks as a body lift.

Spacers are NOT bodylifts. The ride is not changed as you use the same stock springs. You need longer shocks though.

But it's HIS jeep not yours right? Spacers are ok if your not doing alot of wheeling. Maybe he just wants the look and not to spend alot of money on it. Ya Your right a real lift would be better but it depends on what he uses it for.

your right it is his,i guess if u want it to look good at the mall get spacers, thats all their good for.at 4wd.com for a hunderd dollars maybe a little more u can get new coils, shocks, etc for a real suspension lift, why would anyone waste money on spacers when u can do it the right way for a little bit more.they might work good on a grand but on a short wheelbase like a wrangler, they make it ride worse,i have had them and would reccomend to anyone to avoid them if possiblle.

well I just got a 3.5 inch Tuff county lift and 31's and it's very cool but I'm thinking 32's would be even better so some 3/4" spacers and a tcase drop maybe in the works when the 31's wear out.

u should get the polyurathane(poor spelling) spacers if u do,they wont wear out as fast and the elements wont effect them at all.i had one cherokee,an 84 first year of the small one's,i did very well off-road,i wrecked it so i cut the wheelwells out to fit bigger tires.that was when i was 15,in school,no money, and mudhole bound.why would u have to put more lift for 32's?3 and half inches sounds like a good lift to hold them without spacers.u gotta pic of it with the lift and whatnot?

Because if i donot get more lift then everytime I hit a bumb my tires would rub my fenders, you need some room for flexing.

they must sit lower than i have thought, having a 3 1/2 inches sounds like a good lift, but then again im a wrangler person,i dont really pay too much attention to the grands, they do look sharp when they have all the toys.

I don't want the lift to look good at the mall. I want to get another couple of inches the fuel tank, as now if I want to go over a telegraph pole sized log, everything's OK until the last part, when the jeep crashes down on the tank - stupidest design I've ever seen. My old 1958 Landrover had more clearance there running smaller diameter wheels and tires. And every one since. There's plenty or wheel clearance, so I don't need to pay for space in the wheel wells, or for the labour to install it. I'd rather add the extra cash to something else useful than blow it on the extras asociated with a full lift if it's not necessary, such as a raised tank guard to get yet another inch.

if u went with spacers,it cost's around 220 to 250,u can get a full suspension lift,a 2 inch from 4wd.com for 350,shocks,coils and all,if u do go that route do it the right way,it pays off in the end.but as i thought more about your problem with the tank hanging low,got me looking at mine....i was thinking maybe a body lift and some fabrication and could possibly get the tank up a few inches, once the body is up a little out of the way to make room for it.
