Ok bare with me because I'm a little loopy thanks to the almighty binadryhl and nightquil fix all cocktail. I have a couple quick questions about some things that have been driving me crazy on my jeep.
1. Has anyone ever worked on the door lock (manual) on a xj before because I need to take mine apart to fix my lock so I can lock and unlock my drivers side door. I'm 6'3" 230lbs so climbing accross the seats is a bit of a pain in the ass. Basiclly you used to have to turn the key a few times to unlock the door but now that won't even work and neither will unlocking it from the inside it all started after trying to get out of the jeep in a hurry and yank on the door handle with the door lock. (long story about trying to get out fast just say stock xjs don't float in soupy mud.
2. My interrior lights on my dash, ie. Low washer fluid light and what not, seem to have a mind of their own. Awhile back I ran it out of washer fluid and the light came on like normal then for some reason unknown to me it went out for about 1 1/2 months and came back on just the other night now it is out again. Would my battery cables have anything to do with this? I mention them because I had to put new terminals on the cables a while back when I replaced my battery I had to cut about 2"s off the old cable to get to decent wire on both neg and pos. Also sometimes at idle the idle will drop so low it won't really register on my tac and it likes to so like it wants to die (hasn't yet) plus my amps drop scary low on battery gauge but the altenator and battery have both tested good multiple times on different machines.
3. This one really isn't a problem so much as a best way to do something. Basiclly I want to build my own snorkel but don't have anything to refference to see how it was done so I need suggestions on how to go about doing that.
Thanks for any input and for baring with my twacked out state of mind hopefully its not to difficult to read.

ok, not sure if it helps ... but you asked. 1. my TJ locks have been a problem almost since new. the only thing i've found that helps is to cram as much white grease into each pivot point of the lock mechanism. only get's me about 6 months of trouble free use. and it's a pain to do. 2. pull the connector off the washer reservoir and clean it up. also, check your grounds. there will be ground wires connecting the frame/body/engine/battery. for the few $$, replace them. sometimes this is all it takes. 3. http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cherokee/98/05_may/arb/arbsnorkel.html looks like a step by step ... but assumes you purchase a certain kind of snorkel. should help though. hope this helps a bit. Friend of mine picked up a use 99 XJ about 4 years a go. Had a probelm with the dash lights, and gauges going out. The frist owner had a remote start, alarm combo installed, (after market). I'm guessing that when one or the other stopped working, they just tossed the fob away. We didn't find out what it was till it just wouldn't start any more. Pulled it all out, and poof, problems gone. Look in to this if you are not the frist owner.
