I currently own a 1979 CJ-7, built it up, and restored it. I ordered the skyjacker 4" lift for it, and am ready to install. I'm currently looking at different wheel and tire combinations. I want to run 33"X12.5 -14.5". I'm looking at getting the Mickey Thompson Faux Bead Lock in a 15X10, because I don't intend of doing any serious off-roading, but I like the look. My intentions for this jeep are more for on-road driving, but not much, its more just a hobby/toy for me in my free time. If the jeep gets 3,000 Miles a year its lucky. I was looking at wrapping the wheels w/ Super Swamper SSR's but have heard a few (bad) stories about them, and how they are built for off-road use only, and ride horrible on the road. So, does anyone have any ideas/suggestions about this combination? Or, what would you recommend?
Thanks in Advance,

Depends on what you want...(from my experience) any super swamper is going to wear fast and howl incredibly on the road. If they're bias ply, they will also shake every morning. I think its awesome and I don't mind the sound. Most other people think its obnoxious. Throw out the idea of holding any conversation on the highway...
...then again, sometimes that can be a good thing! lol
If its going to be mostly a street Jeep with low milage, you also have to look at the life of the tires on a long term scale. Will you have problems with them dry rotting before half the tread is gone? I believe super swamper has a chart on their website that compares the noise and wear of their tires...or I might have seen that in 4 wheel drive magazine. Can't remember which.
Anyway, you're going to put a lot of money into the Jeep just for looks if you go with super swamper. Make sure that's what you want to spend it on.

The SSR's were especially targeted for people who do drive their rigs on and off road. They are a redesigned swamper radial with tighter tread block spacing (even though they are still very aggressive tires) and so called siping. I have a set of 37's SSR's and cruise easily @ 70+ MPH. They do drive very nice on the road (provided they are balanced, see below) and are a little noisy. But I don't think road noise would be an issue if it's driven only 3000 miles a year. Like 2Jeeps said, the sound is kinda cool and gives it that aggressive sound to go with the aggressive looks. The tread compound softness seems to be avarage as compared to with other off road tires.
On my rig I run Allied Racing bead locks and siped my 37's. I balanced them to within .25 oz and run an additional wheel balancer to compensate for wear, mud, snow etc. If your interested in the additional wheel balancer then look up: www.Centramatic.com. If you need more info on the balancers then you can post me and I can e-mail you.

Thanks guys for the posts... appreciate all the help. I found a independent site that did a thorough review of the SSR's, and it seems like this is the tire for me.
Thanks again...

Where can I find Eaton Bead-lock wheels? I've looked all over the internet to no avail... I'd like to explore my options.

I would look into Allied Racing wheels. They offer a super wammy 32 bolt beadlock. They have all kinds of wheel styles, backspacing and size to taylor it to your vehicle and taste.

i don't believe eaton's are street legal. somebody is making a different style street legal forged beadlock. i saw it in one of the 4x mags. it looks spendy but if you drive mostly on the street, make sure your wheels are legal. maybe a simple search on the internet will get you the info you need.
