I have a 1988 Jeep Wrangler 4.2 3-speed automatic & a 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 5-speed/2WD. My question is this... the wrangler has a carb & the cherokee is fuel injected. Mopar sells a kit for converting the 4.2 to fuel injection. Can I install the fuel injection system from the 4.0 onto the 4.2 ? and knowing that I need a new damper kit P5249610--(I have Mopar's Jeep engines book) In looking through the conversion info and the service manual for the 4.0 Cherokee, I notice that the 4.0 uses a sensor on the flywheel instead of a crank shaft positioning sensor on the damper. Can I install a C.P. sensor and damper and use the wiring for the flywheel sensor? Will the computer for the 91 4.0 recognize a C.P. sensor/vibration damper signal? Are the kit computer and the vehicle computer the same? What else will I have to modify or install to make this work ?
I have contacted Mopar Performance Parts Technical Assistance Hotline, and they were absolutely no help. They said they do not do swaps.
