First some background. I have been driving a jeep for 14 years. I have had the same jeep since. It has been sort of a project jeep. After blowing the head gasket and burning the clutch it sat in my dads garage for seven years. About four years ago I started to rebuild it. It is done, but i am beginning to have a few problems. First problem, My rear housing is bent slightly and was leaking diff fluid. I guess jumping those hills was not a good idea. I fixed the problem with a little silicone around the inner seal edge. Should I go a scrounge another AMC 20 housing or change it to another type? if so, what type? I already have one piece axles and a truetrak locker with 456 gears in there. Second problem, The electrical is driving me crazy. The paint shop moved the harness around in order to paint in the engine compartment, since then things have stopped working, then suddenly works again. I have traced the wires and repaced any sections that appeared cracked. Now my gas gauge and temp gauge have stopped working. I know that they share a common ground but I cannot find it. Anyone know where it might be? Third the rear brakes SUCK. I would like to convert it to disc brakes but a $800 conversion kit is too expensive. Any ideas?

For the guage problem. Try grounding the engin to the frame and the frame to the body with ground straps. If that doesn't help you may need to rewire the whole rig. As for the rear end I would sell the locker,  gears and axels and take that money and buy a late model Ford 8.8. Get the one with disc brakes. then regear it and put in a better locker.

What type of ford vehicles can i find that rear end? Will all the other stuff line up, stuff like the brake lines, drive shaft. Do I need to weld shock mounts and perches?
