Could not resist any longer maybe I'm just week, but I went and looked at the jk's today. One was a base model I' m assuming the other a Sahara .Other than premium wheels and the plastic fenders on the Sahara where color matched the other was plain black no major differences, both having plastic grills.I Found the rear to maybee have less room for storage but did have intergrated speekers on the sides, a little wider back seat .the dash is just smoother and the air bag ha ha . I did pop the hood to see,and oh yes it still just pops right open after the latches are released, and the little v6 was right where the big 4.0 inline should have been boasting a whopping 19 miles per gallon on the sticker. Before I forget more plastic ,plastic covered bumpers front and rear every thing's all molded and space age. sitting beside left overs from last year its very flattering and very simular in lines and size , the differences are sutle and no fold down windshield.

Are you sure the windshield won't fold down? I've read that it will.

it does. they went with a single hinge in the middle, instead of two hinges.

just stopped and looked at the new Wranglers yesterday- just had to. Not impressed. too big. too cushy. too much plastic. too homoginized. About the only thing I liked was the under carraige. everything above the frame (including the engine) can hit the dumpster.. the thing is just getting too wide, and too long. what's worse is the ones I looked at were the two doors.. I can't imagine the bus the 4 door is.
I guess we're stuck with the V-6 *gak*, and hemi swaps are going to be as common as lift kits, and sure- most real wheelers will have a trash bin full of excess plastic after the first week. All that aside, I can see it being a good offroad performer.. I just think the thing is ugly... and too fat.
just my 2.5 cents

Too fat and too big? Perhaps you didn't notice that the JK is only 5.4 inches wider and it is actually shorter in length than the TJ. While you were looking, perhaps you should have driven one as I did. I drove the 4 door and I can tell you that it performs as well, if not better than my 97 TJ 4.0. The ride is MUCH improved also.

Half a foot is that in tight woods. Electric locks, windows, sway disconnects, miles of wires/connectors. Jealous? Whatever, staying put

My wife and I both drove a '07 JK Unlimited X with the 6spd. I liked it. I can definitely feel the difference between the 4.0 and the new V-6. The 4.0 in my tired ZJ (with 4.56 and 33's) could likely keep up with the JK Unlimited.... but the X has a stagering 3.24 gear ratio! Holy cow!
Anyway. I'm waiting to drive the Unlimited Rubi. Guys... NOTHING is perfect right out of the gate. My ZJ is awesome offroad, but is still not perfect. There are quite a few things that owners will have to do to the JK to get it truly "bulletproof" offroad. But, the point there is, so did/do TJ owners.
The windshield DOES fold down. The rear doors DO come off. The top comes off, there is ALOT of room in the Unlimited. This opens the doors to us LWB Jeep owners who want a topless Jeep, but HAVE to have that 5th seat. Also, there is a REAL frame under it, there are solid axles and the wheel openings are pretty large. The pics I have seen from Teraflex with a 2" lift and 35's in VERY impressive. I like LCG lifts....

Short and wide is pretty much the definition of fat! All right, I'll be nice - "stocky."

The JK is wider than a TJ by less than the length of a dollar bill. I think people just WANT to not like the new Wrangler. If you don't like it, just say so. You can't say it's not better, because it is.

Bought a new JK today! Sold my old 98 4-banger. So, of course, I love this thing with 205 horseys under the hood now. Of course, It doesn't have 100 miles on it yet and I'm chomping at the bit to find a lift to put on it so I can have some real tires to drive the muddy farm and logging roads around here in VT.
Complain all you want about not having the old straight 6 but I can see how easy it's going to be to service this engine. With so much room( lots for a monster intake or a supercharger!)
Also, If you look at the stock JK entry and departure angles, you'll see the JK is better out of the box than the old TJ's.
Come next summer that 3-piece hard top is going to be bitchin.
Driving down the road, the thing is as quiet as my wife's car, thanks to the new windshield curve.
Anyhow, I gotta run and go drive it some more. ![]()

You do realize you can run 32s with not lift on the JK? TJ needed a lift for that.

No, I didn't and the dealer said anything bigger would rub too much. I already bought tires but I plan in the spring to get bigger rubber and sell these. Thanks though!
