OME lift worth the money?

So after wheeling a stock ride until now, I am going to buy a small lift.  I think it will be the OME 2.5 job, heavy duty, and step up a little to 31-10.50s.  I don't do anything crazy, but I want some more clearance and room for slightly larger tires.

Anyone have experience with it?  It costs a bit more than other similar sized lifts, but I hear they are high-quality.

Anyone out there have experience with OME?

Will I need a Slip Yoke Eliminator for my 89 YJ 5-speed 4.2L?

I have only heard good things about them. as for a yj I'd go with the med rate springs to keep the on road drive better. As for the price alot of thoses other kits donot come with shocks, I believe OME does.

I also have an '89 YJ.  I put a 2.5" lift on it over 13 years ago.  I did not need a SYE.  The most important thing you'll need is a sway-bar disconnect (if you don't already have it).   I used a Skyjacker kit, so can't say anything about other brands.

Is the sway bar disconnect something that is included in most lifts?

I assume it would be..........I remember installing one when I helped my friend put a 4in lift on his TJ, and think his came with the kit.....

No, sadly, they probably don't come with the kit.  Make sure you check it out before you buy, because I could be wrong.  I have heard of folks making their own disconnects, but I bought mine long after I installed my lift.  Good luck with it!

Just my opinion about the SYE kit, if you are ever out and blow a u-joint or rear drive-shaft, with a SYE kit, you can remove the rear drive-shaft an get home, without........your Fu#@ed.  I have an 86 CJ, so I don't require one, but I have a few buddies with YJ's and they say that was the best investment they made.  It also is better because if you decide to add more lift, you wont get the driveline vibration as soon.

I put an OME 2 1/2" lift on my TJ bout 3 months ago. Been very happy with it so far. I also bumped up to 31 X 10:50 X 15 BFG M/T's. Best investment I ever made. Excellent road manners and it looks great. I didn't need sway bar disconnects for mine, but YJ's might be different.

I don't know how bad TJs are, but I can tell you from bitter experience, YJs NEED sway-bar discos.  There are no photos, so no details; just trust me on this

I will get the disconnect kit.  Any recommendations?

I blew out a rear u-joint this weekend....sigh.......luckily it was about 1/2 mile from a shop owned by a buddy, so I didn't have to do anything too crazy or expensive.......I pulled out the rear drive shaft and waited for the transfer case to stop bleeding on the ground, mopped up the fluid, put it into 4x4 and drove to the shop.  A few hours later I had 2 new rear u-joints and fresh fluid in the t-case.  Of course, then I had to go test it all out.........

I definitely want the SYE kit now.  Does anyone know of any cases where they start leaking out the back, like my 231 has  done for some time now? (oh-so-slowly)  Any problems with a SYE kit that you guys know of?

I can't remember the brand of disconnect I got, but it has two pins to pull on each side--and no grease zerks.  I would try to find one-pin/grease-zerk types.  Like JKS, maybe.  As far as the SYE goes, I'm embarrassed to say I bought one 5 years ago and I haven't installed it yet.....my oil seal has just started leaking again; I replaced it just before I got the SYE, so I SHOULD get going on the swap....

I think before you tell someone they "need" sway bar discos, maybe they should know what they are for in the first place? Just seems like some ppl here aren't too sure? If so Let me explain(as best I can).

First you donot "need" dicsos. The whole point of disconecting the front swaybar is for offroading only,so as you get more front end movement over trees, rocks etc. On road you really should have the swaybar connected. If you have a lift you may "need" longer swaybar end links but depending on how much you drive offroad and the type you do ,you may or maynot need the type that disconects. But if it were me I'd get them over just longer ones anyday, just incase you want to wheel some hardercore stuff,....... hope this helps.

Your clarification is helpful here.  I did say the discos were needed, without pointing out that that's if you're going to 'wheel the Jeep.  I just had this crazy notion that we all 'wheel our Jeeps.  We do, don't we??? (just a joke, of course)

I overheard a guy in a shop once.  The salesman was describing all the stuff he could do with his Jeep if he got a good lift etc., and the customer said he "just wanted the look".......
