I'm currently on my fourth Jeep, first tj, first Dana 35. My question is, how big is the difference between the Dana 44 and the new 35 axle upgrade kits? I've never had to deal with this "weak link" on prior Jeeps so I'm not too familiar with them. (they both have 33 spline when upgraded) I'd much rather have the Dana 44 but I'm stationed in Alaska, and the only way to get one is to wait untill a Rubicon hits a moose or pay out the a@$ for shipping. I'd love some feedback if anyone is running this kit, be it Yukon or Superior I don't care.......Thanks

It's been said over and over, that the 35 sucks! However, building it up is a big help. I've wheeled the snot out of my set-up, 35 with Warn full floater kit, ARB and regeared to 4:56. So far, not a problem. I run 33's, your largest tire for that axle, but I have a friend running 36's with the Superior kit. A few things. Truss the axle (I haven't done that yet), synthetic gear oil and run 33's. The weak link is the axle tubes. If your hard on the pedal, they can bend. Good luck !

Sorry cory, but i disagree ( hey u knew it was gona happen ) I have a super 35 kit with the ox locker, 4.56 gears, and only 33" tires. Right now my jeep is on jack stands in the garage with Its 2nd set of ring & pinion gears blown all to hell. I would recomend the axles & locker to anyone, But just not in the 35.
I was breakin axles left and right, put in the kit, now blowing gears. I love jeeps, but someone did a big boner put the 35 in one.
Im giving it one more chance, then youll see me selling a complete super 35 ox locked axle with your choice of gears on ebay. what a waste of money. ok im done venting now. not calling you a lier or anything cory, i just havent had ANY luck with mine.

Hey thanks for the info. If it wasn't $1000 dollars more for the 44 I'd already have it. I think I'm going to try the truss/spline kit w/ the OX locker, it's $850 at my local shop. Unless of course you feel like posting your kit on ebay a little early. By the way what kind of terrain are you blowing these ghears up on? We have minimal rocks in the summer, mostly deep deep mud and snow and glacier trails in the winter.

Dirtrunner...sums it up. Are you remenbering to flip into low range ? It really comes down to the driver. My 35 is "Jeep Creep" friendly. Six Jeep Jamborees, some of the highest rated trails. I'm still on that same axle...no problems !

I aint gona lie to you. I dont take it "easy" on my jeep. every month we go out and definetly test them out! We run at two different kinds of places: Paragon in Hazelton, PA very wicked terrain ( they hold Neurock Competions there, Its been in JP Mag before). The other is at old coal stippens, which has every thing from big rocks, hill climbs, and the nastiest mud you could emagine. I dont Know how to compare it to what you guys have because this is all i have ever seen. But one thing I can tell you is my jeep- the weakest link is my dana 35 gears. the first time they blew was in the rocks...yes...in low range.. crawling. this time I dont Konw when the damage accured. we went wheelin on a sunday and teusday i noticed a clicking noise coming home from work that got real loud. tore off the ox cover, three teeth on the ring gear gone. sh#t. theyve lasted almost two years time for some fresh ones anyway But you may be ok if your just playin in the mud.
you said about getting a truss kit right? you have to watch the design of it. most trusses come with a diffcover welded on it. you can not use this with an ox locker. ox locker comes with a diff cover( unbreakable) that shifts the locker. I chose to get the best locker ever made and make your own truss if you need it. Ive never needed one though.

Oh by the way, your gettin one hell of a deal. I think my locker alone was $700. But that was over 4 years ago, when no one heard of ox locker(before even jp mag had their hands on one).

One thing is for sure, I do not just "play in the mud". Alaska has so many types of terrain I'll never get to see it all in my six year tour. I've been doing this for 11 years, but untill now I've never had to deal with this 35 crap. As far as the truss goes I'm not getting the superior version, it's a standard beef up truss that will alow the OX shift/diff cover to be installed and I do agree OX is the best made. I wish everyone who enjoyed this "sport" could have the chance to try it here. We have established trails like everywhere else but on top of that there are thousands and thousands of untouched acres the brake your rig on. Some people long stud their tires and wheel on glaciers! Oh, and the kit I'm talking about was by Yukon, and it runs $829 for the 35 kit and $999 for the 44. Still not a bad deal since the OX alone runs $700+......later

When I had my tj built up three years ago, I was going to swap out for a 44. The off-road place (JD's Offroad in Brewster, New York) actually talked me out of it. By building up the 35, it has performed very well. When it does go, I'll look for a high-pinion dana 60. Here in New York, we have all the conditions, including snow, so the 35 has seen its share of terrain to break on. Only real disadvantage is not being able to go up to a larger tire over a 33.
