I remember this being addressed in the "Jeep Leaks" article a few months ago but I can't find my July issue any more.  Anyway, is a new gasket required on under the axle cover or just a squirt of silicone goop?

Thanks in advanced!!   Steve

I have used both and either one seems just as likely to leak as the other However I don't remember for sure or not but on the amc 20 rearend there is a recessed ring that the gasket pops into on the pumpkin so there would be a considerable gap between the cover and houseing so I would go with the gasket there but I suppose silicon will work (would take a awful lot though) make sure its high temp though
