To whoever might want to purchase products from Rusties Offroad Products, be aware that he does not stand behind his products.
I purchased 4 shocks ( 3 in. lift) from him for my 98 XJ Cherokee, and the 2 1/2 spacer kit with shocks he has for sale for the new Jeep Liberty that my uncle owns, which is a 2005 model.
I told my uncle to bring his Liberty over to my house so I can install his spacer kit. No big deal I thought. How long could it take to but spacers in right? Turned out to be a nightmare.
The back spacers went in easy enough just as I expected,as did the shocks.
But then I started on the front spacers. There is no way in hell you can put those spacers on that model Jeep without some serious modification work. Not like he tells you either over the phone (before I ordered it),or in the instructions he sends with the kit.
I spent over 5 hours on the left front alone, and still could not for the love of god get that spacer in. NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED TO GET IT IN. I mean that left side just kicked my butt. 2-3 hour install my ass.
Finally my uncle told me to forget about it. He just really needed more lift in the rear to pull his little travel trailor. Fine by me.
That was on a saturday. The next day, I went to work on putting on the 4 shocks I ordered from him. Already had the 3 inch lift front and rear springs off of my 1987 Cherokee. Just needed new shocks.
Well when I opened the box that they came in and took out the shocks, the first thing I noticed was, there was absolutely NO FLUID IN THE SHOCKS. No compresion what so ever. So much for putting these things on. They had no rebound force of any kind. Useless.
So Monday morning sometime, I called RUSTIES, and even talked to the man himself. He told me there was nothing wrong with those shocks. Thats the way they were designed he tells me. What......with no fluid or compression I asked?? Oh yea....that way you have a smooth ride. Um....sorry, but where I come from (which is planet earth here) every shock I ever installed had fluid and compression.
The man wont even return the money for my shocks ($120), or for my uncles spacer kit ($235).
What a business man he is. And here I was going to buy a 4 1/2 or 6in lift kit from this guy. Hell....I am glad to find out how he is with losing 120 bucks verses $1200 ya know.
And about that spacer kit for the Liberty......if you think about putting it on yours or a friends, beware.....Chrysler Corp. sent out a memo to all dealers in regards to that. That company...RUSTIES OFFROAD PRODUCTS is clearly named in the memo stating.....if this product is put on a Liberty, not only will it void the warranty, but expect to be putting in new hub assemble s every other month or so because of the TENSION/TIGHT FIT in the down force that it does to the front end.
If you dont beleive me.......try it yourself or go ask the jeep dealer about this.
Thank you very much for letting me alert the general public about this rip-off comany.

I'ma CJ-7 man so this has no bearing on me but in cases like this it helps to start a thread as you have done and then scan in the memo naming the culprit, and then post that too, with web address, phone numbers, etc. That way folks are truly warned. Hope you can follw through on that and also get your cash back.

Look dude, I don't know you from Adam but how much research did you do before you bought their stuff? A lot of people have had that same problem with their KJ spacer lift.
I personally run their 4" lift on my YJ and I am very happy with it. My brother runs their 4" lift and is happy with it. A friend runs their 4" YJ lift and is happy with it. In fact, I can probably find another 50 people that have bought Rusty's products and been happy with them.
Oh, and if you're going to slam somebody on the internet, probably best to spell their name right.

They do have some really great products. I'm going to get their track bar when I get the extra money. I also love their new zj fenders with the bulge, but that won't be for awhile.LOL

Dude, you bought a product for a Liberty that requires a bit of skill to install. You had trouble with the install on your end, so it's all of a sudden Rusty's problem? Plenty of guys I know slap those things on with little drama. Take the Jeep somewhere and have a more compentent mechanic install it for you.
No fluid in your shocks? There's fluid in there. It's a regular hydraulic shock, not a gas pressurized shock. Nothing wrong with 'em. They'll damp just fine.
Quit your bitchin'.
