I know that Jeep is not synonymous with good mpg but mine gives me only about 190miles to the tank, which is about 9 to 11 mpg in the city and about 16 mpg on the highway. Doesn’t that seem too low, they are supposed to give 16/20 mpg??!
it only has 35,000 miles on it, stock engine, no lift, and K&N cone installed Any input would be great. Thanks to ALL

They didn't build them for milage, but check the air in the tires keep the filter clean and drive slow,55. Doesn't work for me but I have beentold. I would love to put a terbo diesel in and get teh milage.

Who on earth told you that you would get 16/20 out of a stock Jeep????
The day I bought my Sahara I was getting 8/10 out of her. I was expecting this because I bought a Jeep. I now get about 18/24 after a bunch of modifications. If you are reliying on that silly window sticker or that coniving salesman, then boy you have a lot to learn

I'm amazed at the range of gas mileage people get. I have a '02 sport (6 cyl) with 3.73, RE 3.5" lift, SYE, and 32x11.5 MTRs. I checked mileage 2 weeks ago on 2 fill-ups and got 16.5 and 15.8. I've mad no engine mods. I live in the country, though so most of my driving is around 45mph with fewer stoplights than in the city.

I am not sure what kind of Jeep you have, but here is some info on mine...hope it helps. I have a 2001 Wrangler Sport with 4.0L, 3.73 gears, manual trans., 32" BFG All Terrain tires, k&N filter and tube, cat-back exhaust (done by a local muffler shop), and a trans. gear to recalibrate the speedometer...it's also a soft top.
I always get 14-15 around town (driving easy) and 16.5-20 on the highway. I was pretty upset with the highway mileage at one point, so I did a little test. It turns out that my Jeep sucks the gas the faster I go (go figure). At 80 mph=16 mpg, 75 mph=17 mpg, 70 mph=18 mpg, and 65 mph = 19,20 mpg. In fact, on a trip from Denver to Moab, I was pulling a trailer with 2 dirt bikes over the mountains. We were all driving 65 mph due to the gears in some of the Jeeps in our group. My first tank was 22.1 mpg, and my second tank was 21.5 mpg. Everyone was shocked...must have been ideal conditions. It is amazing how much your mileage can improve by watching your speed and driving habits...it just KILLS me to drive that slow!
One tip that helped me around town...I found that I could let my foot off the gas a LOT sooner than I was when I was approaching a turn or a stop. My Jeep seems to hold a lot of its speed after I take my foot off the gas...saves on brakes too.
Anyway, hope there was something informative in there.

This is my first post on this forum, and i am by no means an expert, but my 1st tank on my 05 jeep unlimited rubicon , w/ 3" lift and 33"s netted me 15.5 MPG in the city .Thats w/ the hard top and towing part of my soft top inside too . I think the key was the new vehicleitize .I tended to take it really easy and prob will do so for the breakin .It also has the 6 speed which was rated a bit better in the milage it would get .After talking to some others , i was told it would get better after the break in too . Sorry but i am kinda happy w/ the milage it get's , seeing i was getting 6-9 MPG in the old 1/2 ton chevy big block truck i used to drive .AND IT WAS UGLY TA BOOT ... I would like to see just how some of you squeezed more MPG outta your jeeps if you would like ta share ?? Keeping your foot from going through the floor does seem to help .

I feel your pain. Fist i think some of the repies were rude but some folks can't help it. With gas prices as they are i can see why you are bummin'
I have a 98 tj with a 4 inch lift and 33s 3.73 gears 5 speed, header, k&n cone, and spacer + exhaust. I get 15.5 religously town/ hwy. Before i lifted it I would get 17-18 and if i did just hwy driving 19-21.5. 21.5 was my best ever tankful. i think if jeep would stick in the 3.7 V6. We would all benefit.
I like the 4.0L motor, it has awesome stamina, but the 3.7 is no P.O.S. And yes it is time to offer the liberty turbo deisel in a Tj. I bet in JP in some years we'll see an article of someone who did just that.

WEll prices just wen't up here in NS Canada to 1.02.9 a liter!!!!! it's the highest it's been here in a long time. I do not worry about it much just try to only drive when I have to. I just started a higher paying new job that's about 12mins highway drive away, so the gas price kinda sucks for me now. There isn't too much we can do about it. Still a afternoon of crusing is still cheap entertainment.

damn if i calculated right that means 4liters=1 gallon so 1.03(dollars?) a liter= 4.12 for 1 gallon of gas. HOLY CRAP.
I live in GA and its $2.16 us a gallon down here.
