im looking for any information on what im going to need to put a 5.3 into my 83 cj7.  i dont know where to start and also need some suggestions on transmissions.

Talk to the folks at Pacific Fabrication, www.pacificfab.net, they specialize in putting late model GM engines in anything and can help point you in the right direction.

Pay close attention to wiring, computers and cooling.  The mechanical stuff has been done thousands of times and shouldn't give you much problems finding info.  Using an aftermarket harness is the easiest way to go, Painless Wiring is a good place to start.
