just purchased a cj5 with the v-6 225 and 3 spd trans. would like to swap trans for a 4 spd. any major advantages or disadvantages between the t18/19 and the sm 465? also any input about the advanced adapters overdrive for the dana 18 transfer case also appreciated. thanks in advance

I'd steer toward the T18 for it's smaller more compact size. Look for the 6.32 First gear version common in J-trucks and Fords. The SM465 is a big tranny and will hang down significantly below the framerails of your CJ-5. It's a big 'un.
The GM SM420 is also a good compact tranny that is easy to use in this application.
The AA overdrive is an awesome bolt on. I've used and seen several used way past the rated power output without problems. Good solid component.

If you go T18 stick with the Ford T18 or the T18 that came in the '72-'79 CJs. The FSJ T18 had a long input and only works with the deep bell housing used in the J trucks. Too long and cumbersome for a CJ5. Not many CJs had the T18 and 6.32 first gear, most CJ T18s had the 4.02. Probably an easier find from Fords.
