I have an 89 cherokee running down the road it feels as if the tranny is kicking down or holding back mostly when cold. it shifts fine otherwise

99 cherokee, stock engine and drivetrain. no lift with 30 x 9.5 wrangler GS/As costume tubular bumper and TJ fender flares with optronic off road lights on bumper

do a flush, fresh fluid and a filter can do wonders for a trans. if a flush and filter swap dont help then its time to start looking into a rebuild or new trans
