I am at the very first stages of thinking about redoing my o4 Rubicon, currently running 12.5X33s. It will be intersting to see if the wife goes along with it. This is an old-folks trail rider, mostly used in the northern Nevada desert and Idaho's South Hills.  We have done Moab and do seek out minor thrills, but not serious rock crawling.  The intent is to run 37 inch tires with no or very little lift, so we can get in without a ladder.  Will the stock Dana 44s with 4.88 regear reasonably handle 12.5X37s?  Also, I'm thinking that to raise the gas tank up I'd cut the floor out and reweld it higher up to new rear fender wells.  Currently no rear seat with an expanded metal box bolted to floor holding "stuff" from floating around, so no seat worries. I can answert most other questions out of catalogs.  Help and advice appreciated.

You only gave it a day...

The short answer is that anything is possible. Look for the Highline fender/hood thread on here and do that to the front with a set of flat fenders. Take a sawzall to the rear fenders and maybe add a set of bushwhacker flairs. Doing this may just fit the 37's. If it's not too much of a stretch to get in I'd do a 1" body lift too, just because all it can do is help.

You know, come to think of it Pete put a YJ on 40's with no lift... do a quick search on this site and take a look at that project. It may have some helpfull tips.

Good luck!

The no lift YJ was a big push to my idea of as little lift as possible, and I have looked at the story several times, in my old JP mags and here.  I'm not familiar with this site's forums, so I probably put this in the wrong site.  I'm not a mechanic, so i"ll have to buy the thing. and I am looking for some basic advice on what has hit almost $10,000 in parts, not acounting labor.  Yeah, the yj had a 1' body lift.
