I have a 97 2.5L TJ that is only used for around town, to the beach driving and sometimes very light trails.  I'm wanting to put a lift and 33". I'm told I will lose the little bit of acceleration that I do have. I have a 4.0L out from a 97 cherokee that I want to rebuild and install. I know the trans. needs to be replaced but what about the other components: T/C, radiator, exhaust, wiring harness? Any websites I can get this info or to purchase the parts?  All help and suggestions will help me greatly.

you would be better off getting one with a 4.0 already in it

I've got a 94 YJ with the 2.5and 33's, and for now the stock gearing. It's not bad at all if you're just driving around town. Not so much on the highway. I'll just say you won't have to worry about speeding tickets. It'll be better with 4.88 gears, and I'll be able to actually use 5th.

To do the swap, pretty much everything you said will need to be replaced among other things. The t-case will just need a different spline input gear if you run an ax-15 or nv3550. Which you should. The ax-5 you have will never survive. Not to mention all the other brackets and stuff you'll need like the tranny mount etc. If you are dead set on the 4.0, just buy a 4.0 Jeep and save yourself the headache. It won't be worth it to do the swap.

I have a 95 cherokee xe and it's a real mutt.Of all the crap done to her the real nastiness is the ecu. You need a bigger fuel pump and the computer needs to tell the fuel pressure sensor and regulator that you need more gas. 02 sensor it needs more air as well. The mid 90's 4.0 has a notorious ecu failure you cant find one in my local junk yards. Go as late as possible. You might require a bigger radiator. Map sensors aren't too hard. If you're going for a crane cam in your 4.0 I have had a poor experience with the big one look into an rv cam just one step down the lope was too much and my ignition system hated me. Coil packs by the dozen in the garage and none work lol. Make sure you trust your machinist. For a quick boost I would get the 2.5 heads polished, take off the grille and slide a cam in with lifters. it's less than 500 bucks and start looking for another jeep until that sells. Check the ads on craigslist you can find one with a blown engine for under 500 with extra cash in your pocket to rebuild your 4.0. Do not recommend swap unless you are truly determined

2.5L, 4.0L, 5.2L, 5.7L, 5.9L or 6.2L, will all be about the same experience.  There's rarely a shortcut to an engine swap excecpt for the old CJs with the AMC 304s that can bolt up 360s and 401s without much issue.  If you're determined to swap, step up to a V8 including the trans that's in the donor vehicle.  You'll get the same gas milage as the 4.0L and more performance.
