Hey all,
so i'm a little ways north here in canada, and phoned the local dodge jeep dealership to inquire about dynatrac's "new generation, high performance" dana 44 front axle. i was looking for a little more beef under my 200,000km tj and was feeling dreamy so i called up the parts desk and got a price quote for PN P5155256. Turns out taxes in this thing was over $9000 canadian funny moneys. so just kinda curious as to what the prices run for you guys down south?  Nine large for a front axle?  Holy Dina. Might just have to swap in that $400 high pinion 30 from an xj...

swap in that high pinion 30. they make a kit called the super 30 kit. beefs this axle up and its still cheaper than $9k. speaking US dollars the kit is under $1800 this comes with an ARB air locker( compressor sold seperatly) and upgraded axle shafts. this is from quadratec.

The Dana 44 you are talking about is not the same. He is referring to the JK part converted to fit a TJ. $9000 seems high but I'm not sure of the exchange rate of Can $ to U.S.

i was just suggesting that building an XJ axle would probably be cheaper than a ready to run D44 dynatrac like what was mentioned.

Oh, well if you go the high-pinion Dana 30 route then I'd go for the RCV axle shafts HERE. It's a much stronger more durable design for about the same cost as chromo axles and CTM joints.

Thats a pretty slick setup, i didn't know those RCV shafts existed for a dana 30. Thanks for the info. This jeep is my daily driver, and with the moderate wheeling I do on 33 x 10.50 bfg muds, should i be concerned about bending the tubes on the 30? Is sinking more dollars into this (HP 30) axle a waste of my dollars? Thoughts?

Just don't jump it. Keep the front wheels on the ground. Should be just fine.
