im very tired of my 3550 in my 2000 tj its been rebuilt once and is getting worse again. im sure the rebuilders dont kno what they were doing they suposedly do them all the time. ive had nothing but bad luck out of mine. id like to put in an auto from a newer body style XJ or tj. im sure il have to rob the computer also. anything else i may need or any do's and donts? should i use the shifter from the donor and will the shifter fit in my existing console? btw i was scavangering the junk yards today looking for other parts and i seen idk how many great looking XJ's that were murdered by the Cash for clunkers deal what a sickening WASTE!!!!!

valvoline synthetic the tranny shop told us the oil model to use instead of buying the mopar gear oil. the 2nd gear pops out of gear and grinds all other gears work flawlessly. i tore it up the first time speed shifting. took it out sent it to em  they rebuilt it i put it in 2nd gear poped out 2 or 3 time later. they got a new housing thinking i may of screwed up the housing they suposedly rebuilt it again i put it back in and 2nd gear poped out still not as bad this time i was tired of taking it out and putting it back in and dad didnt want to keep bothering them i would of been at there door the next day but ive been dealing with it evey since about 6months and its acting like it did when i needed a rebuild the frst time id try another 3550 or AX15 if the price was right and it was good but getting tired of shifting gears

I agree I also think it is a bad syncro because if it was a bad shift fork rod it would pop out
of 1st gear also and if it was the throwout bearing it would pop out of gear in every gear

That's just my opinion

forgot about this thread... only reason i thought of the computer controlled is to have a fourth gear. if i wasnt worried about having an overdrive id get an old 4spd like a t18. oh and the newer like 00 like my tj the better cause they use a 23 spline output and 6bolt pat so the tcase bolts up to the tranny
