i have a 2004 jeep grand cheorkee limited, my gauge light came on while driving and the engine just stopped. i had a diagnostic test at firestone and told me water mixed with my oil and my engine needed replaced. 1st how could this has happened and do i have to replace the engine or is there some other way this can be repaired

Sounds like a blown head gasket. Did it overheat? Is there water in the oil? Did it knock loudly before failure? Was it blowing lots of steam out of the tailpipe?
