I am trying to figure out whether to put a 4 or 6 inch lift on my tj. I have heard different things about long arm and short arm lifts. But what is really the differnce. I also need to know why the tire width matters so much. I was looking to put 33" or 35" on my jeep. I use it every day to drive to work ander tire size too? it is on the highway alot. How imporatant are the sway bars? Also will I need wheel spacers for this or not? I know the price will differ from brands but how much am I gonna end up spending and do you guys have any suggestions.
What will I need to adjust for the bigg

if its guna see alot of highway, than you want to keep it as low as possible. there is a highline fender mod that will clear 33in or a 35in with little to no lift i think. i would go with the 4in lift. sway bars are indeed very important for control and stability reasons. the only time they should be disconnected is wen off road at low speeds. bigger and wider tires will create lots of drag and resistance on the road and in turn will kill gas mileage. for tires that big, regearing is a good idea and bigger brakes maybe. oh, and your speedometer will need recalibration for the regearing and big tires. you can get lots of details by calling a few lift companies for pricing and wats best for your vechile, needs and driving conditions/ habits. good luck.

i got the ultimate kit from dpgoffroad.com about two months ago.
http://www.dpgoff-road.com/site/OMETJkits.htm
it has OME springs and shocks, a JKS body lift and track bars, and some other accessories. the total lift is about 3.75'. i put 33' tires in there with plenty of room. it looks nice, and it's very nice to drive around. i too use my 06 tj as my daily driver, so this was the best option for me. this kit was actually recommended to me by some of the more experienced guys on here like ftgiles and mudb8, and they know they're stuff, so i trusted them, and i'm sure as hell glad that i did.
they do, however, recommend some other parts for convenience like a tcase shifter bracket (advanced adapters) and some rear shock shifters (aev), but those aren't necessary. you'll find yourself more than happy with the OME ultimate kit.
give dpgoffroad a call, the guy's name is Dirk. he is a very honest and helpful guy and will get you what you need.
short arms are not recommended for kits 3.5' and higher, and there is a thread that explains all of that. it mainly has to do with the geometry of the suspension under your jeep. if you end up getting a 4' or 6' lift, go long arm, but realize that you do not need a lift that high to fit 33s. you could even fit 35s under the ultimate kit, but you're looking at longer brake lines, longer control arms, maybe some body trimming, and definitely regearing to go along with the expenses.
i have learned all of this information and even more from a few threads on these forums, particularly this one
http://forums.jpmagazine.com/70/6886354/jeep-suspension/tj-lj-suspension-and-recommendations/index.html
read through it when you get the chance. it's long, but most of the important info is in the first 10 pages or so

Thanks a lot really appreciate your help. If you don;t mind me asking how much did you end up spending. Was also wondering if you installed any sway bars and how did it do on the highway?

i got the OME ultimate kit, 4 33' trxus m/t, 4 15' mickey thompsons. i regeared to 4.56 front and rear not too long after that. this all cost me a good 3500 bucks that i've been saving up for a while. if you visit that thread i was talking about, there's a post about 6 posts down on the first page that will give you a rough estimate of how much you'll be spending, whichever way you decide to go.
no i did not buy any new sway bar kits. and i've already gone on two road trips (about 300 miles each, going 65-75mph most of the way) and i did not have any problems.
overall my ride is very comfortable. a friend of mine (an experienced mechanic who specializes in offroad vehicles) helped me with the installation. he said he had never done an OME suspension. after we finished the installation and took the jeep for a test drive around the city, he said that he's never felt such a smooth ride on a lifted tj with 33s, and he's done all types of lifts.
