Depends on the parts used and the shops labor rate, or if you do it your self.

And honestly, the best way to get more power and better mileage is to swap in a 4.0. I'm not kidding.

im happy with the power it has i dont need a mass amount im just wondering if theres a few extra that i can get squeezed out with parts that wernt as good as the ones in 1993, its getting pretty far up there in miles and theres a very light ticking starting to develope, and a little bit of oil is disappearing, it seems like this should fix it all at once to have a shop rebuild it, i dont have the knowledge to do it on my own or i would.

rebuilding the engine is about $30-$60 a hole, plus cleaning and surfacing. and the rebuild kit is around $300. also the slight ticking is your hydralic lifters failing to pump up all the way, if your rebuild kit does not supply these, then order them from any parts dealer. as for getting a little more power, without the engine swap, it's going to be difficult with your 2.5... there are some slight gains to be had with a new cam, high compression pistons and total seal rings, but they are not very cheap. the head on the 2.5 is, well, restrictive to say the least. you could feasably have it re-worked for better flow, and have the ports between the manifolds matched, but that is hundreds of dollars. to be honest it would be cheaper to buy a good used 4.0 at a wrecking yard and swap it in. stock it'll give you a massive increase in power, add a after market exhaust, and hang on! and the conversion plus exhaust would cost you much less then the rebuilding of the 2.5 would be.

there is also at least a 30-40% gain in mpg to be had with the 4.0
