on occasion my jeep stalls when going down hill in a forward position regardless of the grade. Is this a fuel pump problem?

how steep an angle...

i take it that you still have the factory carb???

steep angles do weird things with fuel levels in the carbs...   nose down angles with that carb.. might be enough to shut off the fuel into the float bowl completely...  that carbs float pivot rod is below the needle and seat and in the front... so any excessive nose down angle and the floats close the needle and seat...  in my opinion...

no fuel ... no power...

one who does really steep angles might really think about swapping on a throttle body injection system... or a port fuel injection... if a factory unit can be installed... there is another trick....   steep angles may let the pump pickup go dry... with low fuel levels...

i bet that someone makes a remote small surge tank... with room for the fuel injection pressure pump... and a low pressure pump to keep that tank filled...   overflow from the top running back into the main tank... only need 2 to 3 quarts of fuel...  the main return line dumps into the surge tank..   this would keep the motor running for a while at steep angles... and topping hills...  hill climbs...  ever run out of power right at the top...  fuel system went dry....

i wonder if this was a secret?????  one could even make it out of a piece of 6 or 8 inch threaded pipe nipple... a pipe cap... 2 pipe flanges... and a pipe plug.. drilling and tapping the pipe plug so the power and 4 fuel lines could pass...

bolting the flanges together with a proper viton gasket so you could get it apart to work on the pump inside if you ever had too...

tell nosy people it's a home made fuel filter with lots and lots of magnets to get you better mileage...  ask them for their credit card... offer to show them how it can erase the magnetic strip on the back...

I have wondered about the same "surge tank" you are talking about (could be a fire hazzard), but seems like it would work.  I have a holly avenger carb on my 360 and lots of times when I am stood up pretty steep I run out of fuel.  But when I get under the hood with my jug of gass to prime it back up my inline filter is bone dry which leads me to beleive I may be collapsing the old rubber fuel lines.  I plan on swapping out for some metal line and I hope this will solve the problem.  Is it pretty common off road to run a small pump to keep 2to 3psi on the line?  If so what is the most common set-up
