So I have a 1990 xj cherokee I4 2WD 5-speed basic as possible. well I've had her for a few years now and its time to up the ante. I wanna go with a AMC 360 for the engine what transmission would be strong enough and preferable 5 speed. 4 speed will work if you can find me one that will work for both everyday driving and playing in mud and on rocks any ideas thanks for the info

Either an NV4500 or NV3550. Here's a good source for parts, adapters, and transmissions.
