95 4 cylinder with transmission trouble

A few days ago I had trouble getting my transmission into reverse. I had to force past grinding to get it into reverse. Now I have to shove the shifter into every gear and sometimes have trouble getting into them. The main problem is starting off, the gears shift easier when driving. Any ideas what's wrong?

Your clutch components are worn enough to allow the transmission gears to still be turning even with the clutch pedal depressed. Your clutch system needs some work. Probably a new clutch, but maybe it's the clutch master or slave cylinder. If the clutch is not slipping when you are going up a steep hill, then I'd look at the hydraulics first.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I did notice something wrong with my clutch. It seemed more depressed than normal and didn't seem to be working correctly when pressed to the floor. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with an identical Jeep. My problem only seems to appear after a lot of shifting. After it sits for awhile, it shifts as smooth as silk. Could the master or slave cylinder be leaking down? Or is that possible.
Thanks

yep. i had that problem with mine. she'd run great, but after shifting for awhile, the clutch didn't seem right. auto zone can set you up with the complete master and slave, i got mine a few years back for $170. it goes in easy to. you remove the cotter pin from the clutch pedal

unbolt the 2 nuts for the master cylander

and the 2 bolts for the slave

this comes as a ready to install system, the hardest part is routing the hydralic line.
I work to support my Jeep
