I have taken all that is needed to remove the head but can't get it to break loose. I recently aquired the 1947 Jeep CJ 2A from a friend for doing some work on his pickup truck. The engine had water in the oil and he decided to change the head gasket but busted the head. I have another head for it but can't seem to gt this one off. I'v even used Blaster on the studs, spraying them almost everyday. Any help would be appreciated as hunting season is coming up. Thanks.

to break the head bolts loose will take a little time. first thing you should try is with a 1/2" breaker bar work bolts back and forth if possible. this stretches and relaxes the bolts slightly to break the rust free from the treads. at first you may only get 10 deg. or so of movement, but as the rust works loose it will turn further. just don't force it! removing broken studs from a block really isn't fun... if this approuch doesn't get then out, a little heat applied to the block, with a propane torch, will cause the cast to expand. this will break the bond the rust has with the bolt, and allow it to be removed. you may need to use both approuchs together to get the job done. after the bolts are out it's a matter of tapping on the side of the head with a rubber mallet to break the seal between the head and gasket.
