Hi, I have a 1989 jeep cherokee, it was running fine one day and not running at all the next... It turns over perfectly but not firing at all... there is fuel going up to the fuel line so I narrowed it down to ignition. I changed the spark plugs, and the coil and the rotors turning in the distributer, I'm not sure what else to check.
If anyone has any other ideas on what else I could check that would be great... thanks.

Yes! Jeeps Are Great!, and they can really "SUCK" at other times.
Some of the things that I have found over the years when my engine wont start is, 1, check the battery for correct output under load. 2, check the CPS (its on the top of the tranny bell housing drivers side and connects up by the top back of the engine near the firewall) for issues like broken or pulled wires, or if it has gone out "this is the most common thing that is causing the 87-89 jeep engine issues"" mine has been replaced 3 times over the last 11 year!, I was even ripped off by a mechanic for $750 for a fuel pump that I didn't even need!, turned out to be a dead CPS not the fuel pump". 3,check the fuel injectors. 4, any of the multitude of sensors (sorry! too many to think of) try the O2 first, then the MAP and look for any vacuum leaks. 5, check the Fuel resister(its that white block on the drivers side wheal well with two wires sticking strait out of it)jumper it with a 12 gauge wire.
Hope this is of any help?
check this site out about the CPS (Crank Position sensor)just highlight and copy then paste in your search bar. http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1hrzu-89-jeep-cheroke-4-0-starts-wants
