i have an 89 comanche 4.0 and its got a few running problems right now, the first thing that has been a problem since i got the truck a couple years ago is that it will not sit at one rpm during idle, it will just keep dropping and coming back to normal and bouncing between, the other thing is when its cold in the morning it will be fine till 3000rpm where it just cuts right out and studders, only during normal acceleration though, if i boot it through it goes perfectly fine, and then while driving regardless of engine temperature it will be going fine then it will loose a bunch of power and be very gutless, then suddenly the power will come back and it will take off, some days it dosent happen at all then others it happens every couple minutes, it seems to be worse when its hot out but i dont know if thats just coincidence. it was doing it bad for a while then someone told me to take the vacuum line off the EGR valve and block it off, when i did this it did the loss of power thing less frequently but it didnt stop alltogether. the power loss thing happened about a year ago too then i replaced the O2 sensor and it stopped happening completely up until recently, tried changing O2 sensor again but no dice.  any help would be greatly apprectiated,
thanks alot

The Renix injection system is a bear to work on. It's not OBD so there is no check engine light and no codes to pull from the computer. So you have to test all the sensors in order to figure out what's going on.

thanks for the great page, i found a vacuum leak from the breather at the back of the valve cover and sealed that up and now the power loss thing stopped, now its just when the truck is cold and it hits about 2500-3000 rpm it bogs out and backfires and chugs and everything until it reaches operating temperature, does anyone know what this might be? could it be the egr valve because i have the vacuum line unhooked from it and plugged so the valve should do nothing at all but i dont know if you need it to do something for you when the engine is cold
thanks
