Here's the skinny, I'm rebuilding/modifying an '80 CJ 7 doing an engine swap and axles. I have a 4.2 block that came from a '79 CJ-7. It didn't come with the power steering pump assembly or the alternator brackets so i purchased what i needed off ebay. My problem is when i put the pump and bracket assembly up to check the fit it doesn't look like the holes are going to line up. If any of you guys have this same engine do you have any pictures of the side of the block where this assembly bolts up to. i would like some to reference and make sure the block i have is going to work. you can post them here, or email me at jripper5000@gmail.com thanks guys.
p.s. this was my first post as you can tell, hopefully not the last if this forum is worth a damn

The best way to match up accessory brackets is to use block and head casting numbers. Sometimes the only difference between blocks that have different casting numbers are the bosses for accessories. There are too many combinations and changes that happen from year to year to ever know without using the casting numbers.
But that doesn't mean the casting numbers from one block to the other have to match, they just have to be compatible with the accessory package that you are trying to put together.
So take your head and block casting numbers to the dealer and ask them for the parts you need and see if he'll cross them back a few years and forward a few years and give you the casting numbers that are compatible.
The big engine re-manufacturers are also a great help in the cross-referencing process with regard to accessory brackets. That's how they do it, casting numbers.
