Actually it is better.  The Cherokee axle should be a high pinion unit, but it is the same width as your TJ axle and will bolt right in.  Early XJ axles will have a two-piece long side axle shaft that is somewhat weak, but they are easy to replace.  Check out:

It depends on what your real question is.

Some of them are the same ('00-'01), but most are not the same. The TJ is lo-pinion. All but the last 2 years of the XJ are hi-pinion. The '80's and some of the early '90's XJ's also had the hi-pinion Dana 30 but used a CAD (central axle disconnect - junk).

The early XJ knuckles and calipers are not compatible with the TJ knuckle and the unit bearings are different to accept the XJ anti-lock brake outer axle shafts.

All the suspension mounts are the same and can be a direct bolt-in if the axle is complete from rotor to rotor.

The differential carrier is the same for both, but the lo-pinion gears are different than the hi-pinion gears.

Did I answer your question? I'm just guessing here.

An XJ hi-pinion non CAD Dana 30, when outfitted with chromo axle shafts that have 760x u-joints and 30 splines, is actually a little stronger axle than a stock TJ Rubicon lo-pinion Dana 44. It's a cheap builder axle that is way overlooked when beefing up a TJ front to handle tires 35" or less.

You can find them all day long for a $100 or less.

i ask cus i found an aussie locker for sale for a very good price but its for a cherokee dana 30, i dont know what year, i will have to find out from him.

ive read some good stuff about the aussie locker and i dont plan on running big tires, and id like something that i can put in myself. workin on a very limited budget so id like to avoid paying someone to do it if i can do it myself.

Since all the Dana 30's use the same differential carrier, that will work fine as long as both the XJ and your TJ have 27 spline shafts, which is stock. I don't think ausie makes a 30 spline locker for the Dana 30.
