Exactly, Less politically correct BS! I think the new jeeps are worthless compared to the (real) old Jeep's. The biggest argument with that is creature comforts. If your such a girl that you can't stand being without your ipod jack, you should be driving a Lexus.

Sorry, didn't mean to (sorta) hijack.

ok. We didnt read the same post. I read the one where he stated that he loved his commmader for what he needed it for and didnt realy understand why people are giveing it so much crap. I did not see anything specificly toward commander owners.

as far as the oppinionated s.o.b goes. Its true of all of us(includeing myself). None of us will ever agree on what a "real" jeep or the "best" jeep is. In fact we tend to down other jeeps alot to be jeep guys. If you drive a cj you have to hate the yj. If you drive a yj you have to hate the tj, and so on. so yeah, we are all oppinionated. Lets keep it that way.

***********************************************************************************
whoa, whoa, whoa now.......i have a yj and a tj, and i love both of them. just my opinion......lol. on a side note, my son in law got a cherokee and wants to throw a lift under it and rock crawl. fair enough, except he believes my advice on skid plating before lifting is dumb........guess he'll be trailering that baby home if he breaks something. i guess what i'm saying is, you can give your opinion and advice, just don't get bent outta shape if it's not recieved well.

Uh, i think something we all can agree on is the first basic 3 of jeeping. Skid plates, lockers, winch! Correct?

Im with you on what i like cheriot. I have owned 2 cjs a yj,tj,xj and currently have an 05 grand cherokee(whateve "j" that is,I forget). so far i have realy enjoyed all of them.

as far as the creature comforts go. I only take them because they come with the jeep. If jeep still sold a cj5 I would take it over the newbys any day. Since they dont and i cant afford a trail rig and a daily i have to buy a newer ones to get my fix. Not saying i would have a com-puss or a patri-crap but all the others are, well, not THAT bad anyway.

Cars That Wrecked Chrysler
CNNMoney.Com

Here's an excerpt:

Jeep Commander

Once again stretching to make more with less, Chrysler designers and engineers managed to pile a big SUV into the skeleton of a much smaller Jeep Grand Cherokee.

While the distance between the front and rear wheels remained the same as on the Grand Cherokee, the Commander had an extra row of seats, four cubic feet more passenger volume and a cubic foot more cargo space.

This exercise in maximizing gave the Commander awkward proportions. The tall SUV also teetered through turns and wallowed over bumps, feeling like small boy struggling to carry a big package.

To add to its problems, the Commander also arrived on the market just as consumers were turning away from giant SUVs.

Add poor timing to its list of problems.

Thats pretty good info, did you read the one on the compass? I laughed at the cruel(but  very true)crack on the fisher price style interior. I think that may have been a car and driver report though.
the fact is though, there are many purists who will never like anything new. In 50 Years, You will hear jeep guys who dont even have a drivers licence yet say " they don't make 'em like they did in 09, they where real jeeps then".

christler has to do what they have to. If they still made a cj like they used to than they would only be able to sell to the purists of yesterday. and a few younger guys. as much as i would be fine with that its not good buisness. I dont realy like it but its the truth. Yes there are some critics of the commander out there, but if it wasnt selling than it wouldnt be around. I see tons of them on the road. most people (not magazine editors or hardcore jeepers) but  real commander buyers love them. at least the ones that i have met. You can look at the consumer reviews, but they only account for about 25% of acual buyers.

"If it wasn't selling then it wouldn't be around". Are you kidding me?

Are you aware that the Commander is Chrysler's worst selling of all Jeep models and has already been cancelled?

A 43-percent decline this year, which follows declines every year since its first full year on the market.

in order to get me to ride in a commander it would have to be built like this..... lol

Features:AEV/Superlift Suspension - provides 4" of lift in a highly refined durable package
AEV Winch Mount - Combined with a modified Mopar brushguard
AEV Fender Flares - Provide enough clearance and coverage for the 39.5" tires
AEV Lengthened Wheelbase - We had to push the rear axle back 5" in order to provide enough room for the tires and not get into the doors
Warn XD9500 Winch
IPF 900 Lights - AEV favorite - Tough and Reliable
Interco 39.5x13.50R17 SuperSwamper IROK tires
Hutchinson Rock Monster wheels - Custom made (should be available soon) and painted AEV Argent. Wheels feature a double bead lock and are DOT approved.

If you like the Commander, then drive it. At one point not so long ago, I drove the wife's Liberty for a few months. I took the jokes and so on, but it was still a jeep. Eventually the Liberty became too small for the family so we traded it for a Yukon Denali. Anyways, I would feel bad for about 4 beers if I paid $30,000 for a Commander and damaged it while muddin'. I have a $8000 TJ and wheel the hell out of it. I don't give two shits if I break something on it. The junkyard and aftermarket support for a TJ is immense. The aftermarket support for the Commander just isn't great enough.

As for not getting it stuck....well we all have good and bad days! Getting stuck in extreme out of the way places is sort of why I bought the wrangler. Guess you just need to try harder....add alcohol next time!!!!
I am awesome at breaking stuff....fixing it is another story!

I think a new CJ of some sort would out sell a Commander ANY day. There are a lot of Jeep purists still around. Besides, I wouldn't mind having air, PS and PB. But as an OPTION. I prefer manual steering in most situations, but PS is nice in parking lots. But, my J-200 has PS, powered by Armstrong!

"Ah... cause they're ugly. The proportions are all wrong. If they wanted a retro Cherokee look, they missed it bad."

Yet another reason to revive the true XJ and just be done with it! A Liberty might be o.k. but it certainly ain't no Cherokee.
