I just finished a rebuild of my '77 CJ5 chassis.  I swapped in a T-18 4-speed and outfitted the 304 with a new Edelbrock manifold and Holly Pro-jection throttle body kit.  I slapped the old body on it just to try it out.  I have to say I am very pleased with the performance!  I took a rolling start in 2nd gear, dropped the clutch and punched the throttle, no joke the front tires came off the ground!  The throttle response is quick and crisp.  Amazing amount of power from the previously timid 304.  I really wasn't expecting the results I got, I figured it would perform a little better but not like this.  It's like a different engine.  Now I'm gonna have to finish building that Dana 44 before I spin the hubs out of my rear end.

I highly recommend this setup to anybody wanting to upgrade to fuel injection.  I got the pro-jection kit on eBay for about $500 and the manifold from Summit for $225.  This combination made a night and day difference in the engine's performance.  The low end torque is incredible, no more downshifting on the hills!  Next upgrade will be an MSD offroad ignition.  Anybody know much about them?
Happy trails!
Casey

I'm a big fan of the simple Holley Pro-Jection. I just finished putting a kit on my '73 AMC 360. It's the third Jeep I have run this system on. As far as performance goes, there are better kits, but the simplicity of the Pro-Jection is nice. As for ignition, I highly recommend Performance Distributors DUI. It's a little difficult to clock properly for timing adjustment, but once you get it in place it really brings the AMC V-8s to life.

How does the Pro-jection do on a 360?  The specs on the system say it is limited to engines with less than something like 275 HP, I figured a 360 would be getting close to that limit if it had many upgrades.  It probably has something to do with CFM and top end limit.

I was looking into a DUI but I didn't know how well it would improve the low end.  They are a lot cheaper than the MSD system.  I was hoping to get a DUI used from a friend but I don't think he's gonna part with it.  Thanks for the suggestion, I'll probably try that option instead of the MSD.
Happy trails!

Yep, Pro-Jection is good for 275hp. A stock AMC 360 isn't close to making that, even if you put headers, carb, distributor, intake and exhaust. So it works out pretty good. But if you put in healthy cam and heads it would be too much for the little two barrel at the upper end.

The DUI is awesome at all RPM ranges. It's just a much better ignition than factory. You can open up the plug gap to .050-.055. When you go to slap it in, point the vacuum advance canister toward the power steering pump. This way you'll have enough adjustment to set the timing. It's a big distributor and a tight fit on the AMC.
