HELLO EVERYONE,
WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS ADVICE OR HAS ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE.
MY 86 XJS WATER PUMP STARTED TO GO ON A MILD TRAIL CLOSE TO HOME
SO IM THINKING EASY JOB,I TEAR DOWN THE PUMP,THEMOSTAT AND DECIDE
TO CHANGE ALL OF THE HOSES AND FLUSH THE RADIATOR WHILE IM IN THERE.
THE FIRST VISIT TO THE PART STORE YEILDED THE WRONG PUMP, THE IMPELLER
SEEMED TO BE GOING THE WRONG DIRECTION.DIDNT MATCH THE ONE THAT COME OUT.
PARTS GUY CONVINCES ME SINCE THE XJ WAS BOUGT USED AND HAD MODS AND A REBUILT
HEAD HE MIGHT BE RIGHT. I INSTALL IT ALL AND FIRE IT UP.IN ABOUT 10 MINS OF
IDLEING TEMPS START TO RISE QUICKLY.SHUT IT DOWN.THE NEXT DAY I CHECKED ALL FLUIDS
THEY WERE FINE.TOOK THE PUMP OUT,BACK TO THE PARTS STORE,AND GET ANOTHER PUMP,
WITH THE IMPELLER GOING THE SAME WAY AS THE OLD ONE(NEVER GOT TO HOT WITH THAT ONE)
PUT IT IN FILLED WITH FLUID FIRED IT UP  RAN  GOOD TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST SPIN
AND MY SUNPRO GAUGE STARTED TO RISE TO 210-215 BY THE TIME I GOT HOME,MOTOR DIDNT SEEM THAT HOT  AND IT DIDNT OVER HEAT.  IS THE GAUGE ALL OF A SUDDEN GONE BAD OR
IS THERE SOMETHING I MISSED...??DONT WANT TO LOSE IT ON THE TRAIL
ITS 2.5L 86 CAN ANYONE HELP, WOULD SURE APPREACIATE IT  ....

thanks for the info i was getting worried, also on further investigation
we found the fan clutch to be spining pretty freely after the jeep got warm,
and coolant was spurting out the cap.spec calls for a 13-15 lb cap for 4 cyl
and v6,but it had a 16 lb cap on it when i got it.the new 13 lb cap the parts store gave me not working,  any advice from here would keep out of the driveway at 10pm
putin a hurt on a 12 pack of PBR with a friend picking our brains..
thanks again
