Not to long ago Jp wrote a great artical about the different jeep models and how each person would modify them.I seem to recall Cappa got some grief for saying CJs belonged in the museum.Well i've been trying to sell my 84 scrambler in nh for almost a year now, basically I can't seem to give it away, the very negotiable $800 I'm asking for it barely covers the price of the 2 year old spring lift that has low miles on it not to mention the heated seat or even just the registered vin number(I don't need a title but i could get one easily).Yeah it's rusty and the frame is cracked but even with a full length hardtop(sold that finally) I could barely get anyone to even look at it. I finally got a local 15 year old and his dad to check it out I sure hope his wife lets them bring it home for the couple hundred bucks and shotgun he wants to trade me.I sure could use that gun shooting my self in the foot will be less painful than watching $5000 disappear from my life.

Bottom line you guys are right CJs are over priced and failure prone the only good ones seem to be compleatly rebuilt with non jeep parts.
Good mag, great articals, excellent web site.Keep the suffering alive!!

I donno, In indiana you can get a good cj for around 1500. i got mine for 900. i did have a rebuilt motor for it but the rest is in ok shape minus the rusted out tub.  the frame is in very good condition. had to put a little $ into it but hey, now its a pretty good trail rig and i paid way less than i could have possibly found a yj or tj for. think i only have about 2100 in it including perchase and parts. I have seen alot of good restos in the area that used original stile parts for less than 3500. you cant find a yj or tj for near that if its any good at all. not saying you or jp are wrong. just saying it depends on the region.

Yeah i agree it depends on where you are and you can bet ill pay fair money for a good one cuz i like em but for a budget wheeler which is what the artical was about ihav far to much money into my 8 already to justify another 2500 for a frame and then still need a motor with good carb or injection and then axles and gears. by then i got over 8k wrapped up in a jeep that still needs bodywork. and to be clear i was gonna do it till i got me a little jeeper girl and spent my frame money on a down payment for my 07jk. now i have a frame, motor injection and still cant wheel cuz i cant afford to fix it if it breaks. i really want to take my family to a jeep jamboree up here in maine or vermont but wont go until i get skid plates and knobbies.

so like i said $8000 can get me a much better jeep for less time working an more time driving than a cj.

Of couse i still love every cj i see and my wife wants me to keep the 8 but the nieghbors dont and the town says i can't have it if it's innopperable.the town and nieghbors are both nice about it but rules are rules and i dont want my yard to be a junk yard either. If this was my property id hide it out back and fix it when i had time.

and still its a scrambler its gotta be worth something to somebody i don't care about the money i just want it to live a good life somewhere.

Stole it?!! the frame had rust and cracks fron under the drivers seat to the rear bumper, the body needs all new floor boards and supports, the motor hadno oil in it and almost melted the solenoid when trying to start, the carb is junk, all smog stuff is gone,i kept the heated seat and dui ignt, the lift rode like a buckboard, thedoors are pretty gone, i dont know if the spare motor even runs the flywheel is rust pitted.
I think he got a fair deal including the 33 bfgs i paid $300 for 2 years ago. He's a good guy and has another 8 in restored conditon 1/2 way across the country so i'm happy she's going to somebody that cares and will keep her running, that's way more important than money anyday. He's going to dump at least 2k before he gets to drive it.Me I think i'm gonna get a cj7/yj framed project back that i sold 2yrs ago i hope the guys takes my $500 offer since thats what he paid the kid i sold it to.Full roll cage ,custom rear cross mem, dick cepeck 3" spring lift, 5 35" tires, auto meter gauges. I got the scout 44s,727/300 and fuel cell for it all i need is a motor. Still think he got a deal??

Yeah if you got a solid frame its worth it.just got a text message the guy can't take my cj8 becauuse of a "family emergancy". My wife says that means he might go in the hospital if his wife sees my jeep in her yard!!I joke but he seems like an honest guy,i have no reason to doubt him. now i need another buyer!I hope the other guycomes back for the rest of my 715 now theres a deal, take whatever he needs for $500 i'll junk the rest.He got a hard top for an m37 actally fits pretty good, and lots of trinkets,4 wheels,I'll be left with a frame bed cab and axles, just enough to go on a flatbed and get scrapped. At least i kept that 258 incase i get the cj7 back, just have to rewire the engine harness, should only take an hour or two right?!!Ive done that before it's only 12 wires or so.

Jeeps come and go, i still wish i had every one i ever owned, not sure where i'd put 25 jeeps and most of them were junk when they left anyway. You have to work on a jeep to drive it,you have to be responsible to earn the time to be a kid again, there's always time!!

Cjs are a bit more expensive here in North Georgia, cause we are too far north too worry about sea salt and too far south for road salt, im 21 and never seen more than 4 inches of snow at one time, and only once, haha. I paid $3 grand for my 77 CJ5 renegade levis edtion(levis interior was long gone, oh well, always thought they were ugly), which is a little high but it has zero rust, and the original 304 was just rebuilt by a mechanic i know, and the previous owner had inherited from has dad who was the original owner, and he wanted to restore it but ran out of money, so the $3 grand i paid for it was the bill from the mechanic for the new engine parts, front and rear axle rebuild, and some other work. Anyway, most of the cjs up here are relatively rust free, which makes everything easier.
