Ok that was kind of breif...
At this point we have found the Jeep to have a good solid floor with no repairs...a solid frame...A descent body with worst rust out at each corner near fenders
going to replace rear door with one we already had from another Jeep
The fenders are just TOUGH looking

By the sounds of things it wont be seeing a lot of trail time.

What kind of engine is in there? If its the 4 banger, and you add an automatic, getting around is going to be like nailing jello to a tree.... Either that or you're going to need gears to match the drive/driven of stock.

With 33's my 4 banger really wasnt enough, so I blew it up....

If you can, here's a quick laundry list of questions you'll have to answer to get any input that may be helpful:

What size tire on it now & what size do you intend to run (bigger/smaller)?
What is lift comprised of (size of body lift and suspension lift)?
What is your intended use of the Jeep (off-roading, just street driving, both)?
What engine in it now (4.2L six or 2.5L four or other)?
Do you have emission or smog laws you need to abide by (useful for drivetrain swap info)?
Stock axles in it now?
Does the Jeep drive now?

Reason I ask the last one is because 9-inches is a huge lift for a YJ. I'm assuming it's got a 6-inch suspension and 3-inch body lift. The rear driveshaft will be very short if you swap in an automatic (especially one with an overdrive) and you probably won't be able to keep that lift height and make it work.

first off if its a sahara than it most likely has the 4.2 liter inline six. if you are in new york you prabably have tight emision standards so the engin should stay as close to the standards as possible when modified. you need to look on the transfer case and tranny to find the type it has. that is a good start. the axles should do just fine with what i saw on your myspace page.it doesnt look like it has 9 inches of lift, (or is that what you wanted to put on it). if you do put larger tires on and lift it i would recomend changing the axles to a ford 9 inch set up with 4:10 gears and lockers on atleast the back axles.weather you raise it or not the lockers are a must for offroad use. they will realy help. a winch is also a good investment. WARN if you can afford it and mile marker for the less pricey. the auto tranny is actualy a good thing ecpecialy if you are new to offroading. thats about all i can tell ya without more info on the jeep.
ps welcome to jp and happy jeeping!
