what is the backspacing on the factory 16" wheels? I assume they are 8" wide - what is maximum tire width you can put on these? I am looking at a 2" lift only and want to run BFG LT275R16 M/T KM2

dang, missed this post
rubi wheels have 5" backspacing and are just under 8" wide
265x75's will go great with a 2" lift on the rubi moab wheels with 1" bumpstops. it is possible they will slightly rub, causing no harm, one of the control arms at full lock unless you center the axle with a adjustable track bar or drop bracket. washers in the turn stops will stop the rub.
285x75's, 255x85's can also be ran, they require 2" bumpstops and centered axles in addition.

Like Mud said, those tires should fit just fine.
Shoot, I'm running a 13" wide tire on a 7" wide wheel on my DD... lol

The "TJ" can accept 12 inch wide X 15" Rims with 32" X 11.5" tires without any mods. In a severe "Crossed High Center" the front tires will rub the extended fender flares, somewhat. 12" wide rims are made to extend the inside of the tire outward 2" beyond the stock tire width. Anything larger, you will need a lift, such as; 33" tall tires will require 1-1/2" lifts.... on the TJ.
What I did was to install 4" Air Lift Bags which will lift the Jeep 4" by the push of a button. When not doing the Trail Thing, just let the air out of the Bags, by a push of a button, and the Jeep rides low and looks really good... and Stout.
If you have a 4 banger, like me, you won't get into 6th gear very often with those tires. So.... I'm planning an Engine Swap to a 502 ci Big Block Workhorse. (Talk about bent and twisted stuff......) I can see myself flipping on it's side by just letting the clutch out, or maybe it will do a one rear wheel "Brake Dance" if I mash on the gas too much.
