I bought my cj last summer and just about the only part missing is the air breather. Ive talked to many people some say it was an oil bath set up? Is there an aftermarket breather setup maybe a snorkel? It has the old "Iron Duke" my father in law called it in any case its a 4bangr

If it's a 4cyl and it is stock, it's a 134 F-head "Hurricane". That's a Willys motor. The GM "Iron Duke" was only used in the '80-'83 CJ's. But that's not to say one couln't have found their way in your Jeep.

Look a the exhaust manifold, if it's bolted to the block and not the head, it's a F-Head "Hurricane" 134. That means the intake valves are in the head and the exhaust valves are in the block.
The rear Dana 44 is the two piece variety and is not a very strong axle, even though it's a Dana 44. It's an offset rear differential because of the Dana 18 transfercase. Just like the Waggy's and CJ7's with the BorgWarner Quadratrac required an offset rear diff.
It really depends on what you want to do with the CJ. Do you want nostalgia, or a capable wheeler?
Here's a "Hurricane"...

The 44's in these Jeeps can easily be converted to full floats (and disc brakes) at which point they will be about as strong as you can make a 44. I am only running 33's but have 400+hp on my mine. Over 20 years, only the front pinion bearing failed, most likely because I put too much preload on it (I have a way more sensitive torque wrench now). I do not know the status of the Warn axle kits, but you can put a full float together using stock spindles, hubs, rotors/drums and have Moser or some other reputable axle supplier make you some alloy shafts. The problem with the 2 piece tappered shaft/hub is the square key-which will shear even with the 4 cylinder if the preload on the axle nut is not enough or if you just plain put to much load on it (as in any tires bigger than 31's).
