I have a 1994 Jeep YJ. I have got a Ford 9" from a 1977 f150 to use as my rear diff. I have rebuilt it with 65" wms to wms. I would like to have a Dana 44 built but to save money I would like to go to a junk yard and get the knuckles, breaks and every thing but the axles and housing. What should I be looking for? I read a artical in JP that said to look for a 1973 to 1977 1/2 gm axle I called the junk yards in my area and all I get is we don't have any thing that old. Any help.

You can use the knuckles from any FSJ open-knuckle Dana 44. They are pretty common. I assume you are running 5-on-5.5 lug in the rear. So, find a '74-'91 FSJ and take everything from the knuckle out. Then you'll need '79 F150 bearing hubs, rotors and wheel seals to get the 5-lug pattern.

You should also consider a front Dana 44 from a '80's wide track Cherokee or J Truck. They are 65" wide. Then you won't need custom stuff.
Also, most wrecking yards have access to a lot of other wrecking yard's inventories, so ask them to search for you.
