Looking at installing a 4 to 1 kit in my dana 300, Looking for any info to help me pick the right kit or other options?
Has anyone ever used the LoMax 300 or a TeraLow kit?
Any troubles with installing or long term? Do I have to also upgrade output shaft at same time?
Looking for any help.

Do you have the 300 already? What tranny/engine combo will it be behind?

Engine, tranny, differential gears, and tire size all play a role in the overall performance. Maybe 4:1 isn't right for the whole package??

Share some more details about your whole build.

I run a 231 Buick, 350 turbo,3:73's and 35".
I am happy with how the jeep works, just looking for a bit more when in low range.

Your axle gearing is way off for 35's. It should be at least 4.10 and maybe even 4.56 if you don't do tons of hi-way driving. You would notice a huge difference in all aspects. It would seem like you added 50hp.

Are you running the Dana 300 now with an adapter?

An adapter cost $500+ and the lo-Max cost $600 plus the cost of a Dana 300.

Have you considered an Atlas? They are on sale for $1999. They come with choice of lo gear ratio, bigger output shafts, twin stick shifters and no adapter required.

But, if you already have the adapter and the Dana 300 it's kind of a mute point. I think you'd get a lot more from an Atlas than you do from converting and adapting a Dana 300.

I think you'd be much better served by re-gearing your differentials first and then you might find that you don't need a 4:1 lo.

I know everyting I read tells me that I am way off on my axle gearing. Please keep in mind that I drive this jeep, last 2 years I did the round trip to Killington VT Jeep Jamboree twice 1000+ miles each year while towing my military trailer/camper.Then last fall drove Jeep 700+ miles round trip to Bethel Maine for their Jamboree. I get great gas miliage and run 65 mph with no trouble
I am not a hardcore rockcrawler just a guy who enjoys driving my Jeep to these events and is on the highway a fair amount. I run the middle of the road trails have a blast meeting and talking with everyone, I would love to build the Jeep with better gears, axles more tire but I would lose what I enjoy now. I run the Jeep in low range and very rare that I am out of 1st or maybe 2nd gear. Just looking for a little more when I am in low range I find that I am under powered on some hills and hope this is option?
As for the adapter I do have that in the Jeep now and the 300. I have seen alot of Atlas at the Jamboree's everyone seems to run them. At that price I see why. When I priced one years ago to get it to Canada was just over $3000.Was not willing to try to explain to the wife what that expense was on the Visa.(LOL)
The Lo-max kit seems like a better bargain then the tera-low? Has anyone run this and is it as good an option?
Again I thank you for any feedback.

Even with 4.56 axle gears, your crawl ratio would still only be 29. Good trail 4x4's should be 30-50, and with your setup and 35's should be closer to 50 than 30.

And with 4.56 axle gears you'd be running 3000 rpm at 65mph. On the high side for sure.

4.10 gears gets you a 27 crawl and 2700 rpm at 65mph.

3.73 is 24.5 and 2450.

With as much hi-way driving as you do, it would seem like a 4 lo would be a better choice than 4.56 gears, which would only be marginal still as a crawl.

I'm not a Terra fan and have never read or heard anything bad about JB/lo-max. I have heard of some problems with the Terra lo and 231 tc but not with the 300.

So, the more I think about your specifics the more I think you're in the middle of everything, and no (1) change seems to quite get you there.

Compromises! Who needs them?

Sounds like you know more about what you want. I ran a tera low in my 231 and it worked great. Got a buddy that rockcrawls and ran a 300 with the tera low and had no problems. He races XRRA and has gone to the Atlas only because it was in the bugggie when he bought it. Thats just my experience with the tera products.
When you're finished....you're done

I hear what you are saying, Compromises, I hate that word but you have no choice if you own a Jeep, so many  good products and hard to build a jeep that is great at everything. The crawl ratio would be nice to have around 50 but not willing to give my auto and highway driveablity.
Lo-max kit is about $300 cheaper than the tera-low from what I can tell from pricing around the net.
thanks for the info

Took awhile to get the time to do the upgrade. Went with the Lomax kit, also both 32 spline output shafts and twin sticks. I did the kit myself (exept for the machine work) Kit went together very nice. Called them at JB and were great to talk to when I was missreading the steps.
I will be installing today with 2 new drive shafts from Tatton's. Great looking work on these shafts.
Geting ready for the Jamboree in Bethel, Maine Oct 1st. Will find out how the kit works then. Everyone tells me I should be very pleased with this upgrade.
