Ok well I've finally gotten some money and I'd like to take a cj 7 and put a chevy v8 in it with a NV4500 tranny and the Dana 300 transfer case, but that's about all I know. I was hoping that someone who has done this swap or something similar to it could give me some tips. Like all projects, I expect to run across some things I hadn't planned on financially and I was hoping that someone could give me a basic idea of everything I will end up having to change out. Also I don't have the tools to do most of the work. I live in Austin Texas and if anybody has a place they could recommend in the area for labor or to buy a rebuilt chevy v8, that would be a big help. Thanks

I used a T4 that came in my jeep for simplicity but for relibilty the NV4500 is better. Advance Adapters should have the adapter for the transmission to transfer case. Jegs has the motor mounts. Summit Racings has the headers. 4WD has a copper radiator or you can get an aluminum from 4WD or Quadratec.
If you want a loud muffler go with Cherry Bomb Extreme. No fiberglass to blow out. Cheap and Small.

Along with the Chevy if big power and big tires are in the future you may want to change the axles. The Dana 30 should hold up to 33s and maybe 35s if you are careful. You might want Warn hubs and look for some stronger shafts. You could add a truss to be on the safe side. The AMC 20 should hold up to 33s, but don't be surprised when you break a two-piece shaft. Under extreme use you might want to weld the tubes to the centersection and truss it. Add a locker or limited slip. Throw in one-piece shafts and you should be able to handle 35s or maybe bigger. You could change the AMC 20 to an 1986 CJ-7 Dana 44. You might be able to handle 35s stock or get stronger shafts for no worries. You could also call Currie, Dynatrac, or a number of other manufactures to have a custom axle built.
How many inches do you plan on lifting it??
