I have a 1985 cj7 with a 258 amc inline 6 and I am swapping in a ford 302 v8. Will my stock radiator provide adequate cooling for my new engine or should I consider recoring it?

That 302 is darn close to the 258.  If your radiator is in good shape and you get the 302 engine driven fan correctly oriented with the radiator you might get away with it.  If you don't have a fan shroud now, you'll definetly need it for the 302.  I'd go for it, then keep a close eye on the temp gauge, especially on long hills in warm weather.  If it works, you saved some coin, if not then you know what you have to do latter.
