Maybe C. Hazel will have some experience with this. Does anyone have any good ideas for putting a gun rack in a TJ? Enough to hold a couple of long guns. Any input appriciated. Thanks!

you could rig somethin up in back on the roll bars. maybe look at using an existing gun rack and modify to hook up to roll bars.
will work for jeep parts!

I have been meaning to go to a city auction to see if i can get my hands on one of those dash mounted shot gun holders that are in squad cars. I would then modify it to fit in my TJ.
I have no clue if this is going to work but I'm gonna try!

I Hunt alot, and found the best gun rack in a TJ is already Built in. Rifle in a soft case fits perfect in the Hollow beside the front seat next to the door. Its out of the way, and doesn't fall when going over the ruff stuff. Both driver & passanger have room for one, and they are very hard to see from outside the jeep. Only down fall is stepping your wet leg over when getting in and out. I leave my case 1/2 Zipped, and rifle is secure & Dry, but easy to get at.
ohhhh!! sooo!!! AWESOME

not a rack but with a inta trunk or a oplimpic trunk you can place your rifle in and it sits on the back part of the fenderwells where the rear part of the roll bar is

By the way mive is a 2003 Sahara. I had the same idea, cgreenwood. At least I would guess you are referring to the style the cops use to hold their scatterguns upright against the dash. First, if you are unable to obtain one at auction try galls.com. They sell them new. Second, I thought about where to mount one. Up front there doesnt seem to be ANY room so maybe right behind the console infront of he rear seat. I will probably go this route unless someone can come up with a better idea. The roll-bar seems like a good idea but after many hours of thought I haven't engineered a safe way to do it. One other thought rolling around in my head is how the origional Jeeps carried M1s...on the dash. Same prob. Not able to engineer a good way. Still looking for other ideas. Any imput appriciated!

i have a gun rack that holds 2 long guns! 300mag/boss syatem wont fit across jeep. it goes between the front seat , point business end facing the back of the jeep. bought it out of jcwitney about 60 bones! has rubber coating on it built like a tri-pod. also has a security lock. the downfall is you haveto remove your center console "no more console=less storage space"

I stand mine between the door and seat, It leans back against and secures to the roll bar.

the old army jeeps had a kind of strap set up on the dash to secure the garand.....of course the guages were located differntly too, and in combat, who needs em? another way to go would be a scabbard that you can mount onto the rol bar. those ones that mount onto atv's might work.

Velcro. Could even have it sewed into some canvas. Sew in some loops & you can carry multiple long guns. Can be secured with one of them zip tie style locks.

It would help if I knew what your were trying to mount. I'd sling a Ranch Mini-14 a lot differently than a deer rifle with a scope.
Forget the dash or up front. Not really workable in a TJ or YJ. If it was a CJ I'd put it across the dash above the steering wheel and below the windshield.
I don't like upright. Too much chance of the scope getting knocked by something. I'd try to rig up someting above and behind the driver's head. Maybe directly across the bottom of the roll cage. Or perhaps diagonally across the rear roll cage with the butt of the rifle above and behind the driver's head so you can grab it out quickly.
I do like the one idea about putting the case alongside the driver's seat at the rocker level. Only bummer with that is you chance getting it wet if you do any deep water crossings getting to your hunting spot.

my 12g. mossberg is 48"'s and stands perfectly next to the seat. I also carry a 44,50,54cal muzzleloader, 300savage and the 0 6 there also with scopes.

Mount it to the floor under the seat running towards the front or rear. Place them in through the rear door. You will have to modify the rear seat brackets. Ive done this on another jeep. Plus cops can't say your hunting from the vehicle. The only downside is you can't hunt from the vehicle!
I break stuff.
