Hi

I am looking for a 3 in lift for my 1994 xj i have been looking at the skyjacker lift and the rustys lift and also the re lift but the re and skyjacker ones are kinda pricey. All come with new leaf springs (i dont want adl or blocks). also i was wondering if you need new control arms or if you can run the stock ones? cause the rusty's one doesnt come with them it's also like 300 dollars cheaper (trying to save some money)

Now tires i know they say you can run 31's with a 3 in lift but do they rub with stock wheels?

Any feed back will be great

Thanks

For a 3" lift on an XJ you're probably looking at control arms that are 1/4" longer than stock to maintain suspension geometry. I have heard of XJ guys going with WJ front LCA's to gain tire width clearance and strength, though.

Editor Pete Trasborg owns an XJ, and wrote an excellent article on fender clearance trimming which you can find here on the site under "Project Jeeps", "Mileage Master".

Stock tires on an XJ are about 8.5" (215's), and I've run 235's with no problems, but 31x10.5's will rub at lock. IIRC Trasborg runs 30x9.5's on his XJ.

Oh, and my advice: don't skimp on the lift. There's nothing worse than purchasing budget componentry and having it break or fail in short order, or getting an incomplete suspension system and being plagued by a mysterious and incurable DW. If you're adventurous and like working on your Jeep, you might try a boneyard lift, but be prepared to do some swapping: it's usually a trial and error process.

And, for the record, my DD and part-time work truck is a '97 XJ on a 3" OME lift, no SYE on 242, and running 31" BFG AT's on OEM alloys that rub the LCA's at full lock.
