I need to get a new rear end for my 97 XJ, from what I understand the dana 35 is shot. So I am gonna have to get something new. So far I got a jeep with 4.5" lift and 33's and i use it for moderate trail use. Ive got some ideas for a 9" or a dana 60 both from dynatrac. I am on a budget but I think I can manage to get the cash for the axle. My jeep is also a daily driver so I need to keep it reasonable.

Call Currie they build The Ford 9" with disc brakes, locker of your choice and install the spring perches where they belong. Also take a look at the Ford 8.8 with disc brakes. Currie will build a Dana 44 for you also.

What about dynatrac ive been looking at their trail 60, but I am not sure if that would be over kill? I do plan on going to a six inch lift but i only wanna run 33's i just wanna get wider ones like 15.50 or more, so im not sure if the d44 would be the choice.

hec if u are a budget go and look in the junk yard for a dana 44 out of a xj and call randys and get a locker and new axels

The best advice I have is to go with 1/2 ton axles, such as that out of a late 70's Ford. Dana 60's are nice and strong, but come on, the weigh almost as much as the xj it self. A Ford 9" is an excellent choice for the rear. A high pinion 44 out of the same vehicle works great for the front and will handle a 80lb. tire with all the throttle you can throw at it. Just upgrade the front shafts, joints and hubs. You can still drive it on the highway, and in fact it makes the ride more comfortable. forget the sway bar-you don't need one. I have been running this exact setup under my XJ for almost a year now so I know it works.
