Im getting some 33" bfg MT's and i need a tire carrier because i dont wanna rip my door off the hinges. I was looking at some on the internet and most come with a rear bumper with a reciever hitch intigrated, they also say not to be used for towing? I have a hitch on my jeep now that looks like it will get covered if i buy a rear bumper. The heaviest i pull is an 800LBS atv.Is there a tire carrier i can buy without a rear bumper? Im also pretty handy with a welder so i can always make my own. Is the rear bumper strong enough to mount a carrier right on it say at the frame section?

There are lot's of places that sell builder parts for rear bumper tire carriers (latches & spindles).
There are also several places that sell body mounted tire carriers.
The disadvantage to both, is that you have to open them first and then the tailgate.
Now, I have not seen this first hand but it makes a lot of sense. It attaches to the body and the tailgate, opens with the tailgate, and supports a 35" tire and 200 pounds. I have some HighRock bumpers, and they are quality. And of course you know Bestop is an OEM to Jeep. So, they make quality stuff. Click here for more info.
Bestop Heavy Duty Tire Carrier available at Quadratec for $289.

Search our site here, we recently did a Bumper/Tire Carrier shoot out. Should have some good info in it for ya.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

Thanks for the recomendation. I read through the shoot out and im leaning towards the Tomken or Best Top units. My only concern is still towing as only 2 units had a tow rating and i do tow often. My other question is what did you guys do with the brake light i didnt see any after the carriers were installed?

I like Tomken, but the latch needs to be adjusted frequently to keep the rattles away. Common with a lot of them.
Several places sell a relocation kit for the stop lamp. I think most people don't care. Your only concern would be the blue lights behind you if you live in one of "those" towns or states.

I also think as far as towing, for 800 pounds, I would not be concerned. They are all very beefy. I'm sure the lack of tow rating is a legal thing. Your Jeep should only be towing 2000 pounds max anyway, and I think they would all be rated more than that easily.

I had the High Rock 4x4 (Bestop) rear bumper and I liked it. It mounted easy and towed a 16'duck boat w/ all the junk, Honda 450, and other stuff...not at the same time. It did this with no problem. Add in the Bestop tire carrier and I think thats a good combo. Thats my 2 cents
