I am new to the sport and looking to put some 33in tires on a wrangler unlimited. I have narrowed down my search and I am on the fence between Goodyear MTR's and BF Goodrich MT's.
Cost is very comparable between both sets. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

i like the traction of the mtr, when the bfg's get older they will crack when set over winters.

also, even though I'm a BFG fan, the goodyear has much more dependable sidewalls.

I love the BFG's. I know many people that have had balance issues with the badyears. Go with the new MT's

i'm running 35" mtr's w/1.25" wheel a-dapters, 3 plugs and a patch in one tire, and no balance weights. and no vibration issues, cruise 75 no problem, they are indeed both good tires i guess its comes down to what tread pattern do you like...

I'd personally go with MTR's as Ive seen them on a F.D. pickup that is used for wildland, and maybe slightly overloaded depending on who you ask. Seem to work GOOD in sand and muck and are holding up Very Well with high speed use ( 70-90mph) on the road. ( remember its a F.D. pickup no speed records allowed)

BFG MT's! The MTR's are great looking tires and heard they perform well. But if this is your daily driver, go BFG. Customers have complained about the mileage wear of the MTR. Where I have heard no complaints about BFG. Both look great can I also suggest another tire? Toyo MT.

In those wheeling pictures i posted i didnt have any issues climbing those snow/ice hills. the guy in the scout is running procomp MTs and he did ok i had to yank him up a couple hills after he got as high/far as he could. and the red rubicon on 37MTRs locked front and rear did worse. he was sliding everywhere and he is not a rookie driver. the MTRS have no siping and they just turned into donuts and became horrible in the snow. 3 times he slid backwards 20 + feet. so if you live in wet conditions keep that in mind. the trxus MT has thee most siping out of anyone in the MT class.

yeah, I just got back from wheeling in 3 1/2ft of snow near the house, I was able to break trail better than one of the others running a set of BFG's with tirechains, another was running 35" mtr's and just kept getting stuck behind me. I've found I have better luck in the deep snow if I keep the lockers off, most of the time. the mtr's are no comparison to a trXus. I'm sure they'll last longer on the street though.

i was considering a set of trXus for my next set, but i read some reviews from a few people that had blowout problems with them (only a few though), pretty much all the other reviews were positive. lucky for me, i live a short ride from a national tire store....i won't have to order them from the catalog. the coopers are working pretty good so far in mud, they don't really like small, wet, loose rocks, piled into hills though.

well you being an ex-truckdriver, you well know that blowouts are caused by neglecting to keep tabs on air presure not poor tire design. they always gotta blame something other than the operator, just like the big stink over the firestones a while back, there was nothing wrong with the tire, they were over loaded and under inflated, good luck getting a trXus 10 ply tire to blow out under normal circumstances, I run around on mine at 15psi all the time, although I rarely go more than 20 miles on the hwy and drive under 55 (west coast) unless I'm driving to the coast or a longer distance. some people still mistake the trXus for the bias ply swampers, cooper also has a tire tread pattern that nearly matches the toyo' m/t's.

that's kinda what i was thinking about the negetive reviews. one guy said he was under load, so yeah, it would make sense. i won't need to replace the coopers for a little while though, that'll give me time to hopefully save up for the trXus mt's. like i said, i got a national tire a short ride away (manheim pike.....stones throw from the auto auction). on the right side after you get off us30
