I have been wanting to buy myself a 98 or newer jeep and give it a 6" lift and some nice 35 wheel. As I'm sure most of you guys do I have a "Mr. Know It All" mechanic friend and he has been trying to talk me out of my choice of years and says I need to find an older model. He says Jeep has really bad frames now that rot out fast in just a few years and the older models are better. What are you guys suggestions and experience. I just feel a newer model would be better... but who am I to know?

That has to be the least informed, dumbest, know it all thing any body could ever say.
The YJs (87-95), as far as frames, are perfect compared to CJs. And TJs (97-06) improved upon that. Besides the coil link suspension vs leaf spring and fuel injection and...
No, definitely really dumb. A lot of TJ guys had YJs and CJs before their TJ, and nobody says "man I wished I kept my CJ, this POS TJ".
