The army has finally removed the "duece" from the supply inventory. The ones remaining in service are being collected and will soon be filtering out to the civilian world or to supply Iraq. We turned in 30 and parked them into a field containing well over 200 of them while more were arriving as we were leaving. This being one state. The running ones will be seperated and the non running ones will be stripped for parts and sold as lots in autions. That means rockwell axles. Didn't know if you all were interested but figured I would put it out there.

guess uncle sam finally realized came to the conclusion that the duece is really a pain in the rear to drive. what with the arm strong power steering (works real good when you're trying to turn around on a heavily rutted road). don't even get me started on the stationary, harder than a rock driver's seat.

Yeah the army believes the newer recruits arn't aware of how to drive a stick and let alone one that is manual steering. The only upside for new drivers is that you can drop the clutch with no gas and it will still take off in granny low 1st. Clutches with shim packs arn't that much fun to replace and are time consuming. They did come out with a kit to put power steering and an automatic in some. I havn't seen any of these in awhile. I don't know if they are part of the phase out or not. Those would be the fun ones to get ahold of. A duece in low transfer and second gear is almost impossible to get stuck. In my 9 years of service I have only winched one and that was because it was so off camber they were scared to try and drive it out.
