Jeep TJ A/C Fire Prevention Relay set up....NEED HELP!

Hey there new to this forum but not Jeeps nor Jeep forums. I have a question regarding this article.. http://www.jpmagazine.com/techarticles/electrical/154_0710_jeep_fire_prevention/index.html
If anyone could please label the wires on the drawing for me this would really help alot. My wifes Jeep has encountered this problem and with a newborn baby on the way I dont want the dash catching fire while she has the baby and herself strapped in. I know what to dojustnot sure of exactly how to wire the relays..Thanks for any help.  Kevin

This is for a SPST automotive relay from Radio Shack. The terminal numbers are standard for most relays.

"ON/OFF"-#85 - 12v from Accessory On (new wire)

"Ground" #86 - low speed cut wire (to fan switch)

"12v/out"-# 30/51 - low speed cut wire (to resistor block)

"12v/in" - # 87 - ground (new wire)

Then repeat for the other three relays, med, med hi and hi.

Thanks for the reply, any certain guage wire I need to use? Where should I tap in to get my Switched Power? Do you know the colors for each of the blower speed wires?

Get a 20 amp automotive relay from Radio Shack. You really only need two. Do the med-hi and hi speeds only. The low and med don't have as high of a draw.

The wire colors are not as important as the gauge of the wire. The high has the thickest gage wire, I think 12 gauge.

Pull a 16 gauge wire from the fuse panel. Use a fuse tap. The same wire can be used for all the relays.

The new 12v wire only controls the coil on the relay and is a low amp draw. It does not control the fan. The new ground wire controls the fan and should be 12 gauge. This ground can also be used for all the relays.

OK thanks. I actually had bought 40 amp relays do I need to return them and get the 20's? Also, What do I do just run a + switched wire from the fuse panel and a ground up to where I put the relays then split 2 wires off of each of them for each seperate relay?

Yup, pretty simple. If the 40s are bigger size wise, you may want the 20s. Otherwise it doesn't matter. There is not much room.

Make sure you do a good job with connections, so you don't end up with loose wires and shorts.

The best connections are the spade terminals that have solder in them. You put them on with a heat gun. Then they're soldered and won't come loose. They cost a dollar per, but worh it. Remember your jeep sees a lot of rough conditions and soldering terminals is really the only way you should be splicing anything for automotive.
