Hi, this is a weird question.  I'll be succinct.

What is the beefiest Transfer case that can be driven on the road with 4wd on(aka awd).  It's going behind a 401 and depending on the complexity; the car will be a track car instead of a drag machine(auto vs stick).

Can one be built for racing?  I've read into the quadratrac; but then I may need an entire driveline from a jeep.  If there's one with a driverside dropoff, I could use eagle parts.

Thanks for anyhelp!

I'm asking on this site because jeepers know more about amc driveline that any amcers(that includes me).

what exactly are ya building? truck car... solid front or ifs?

I'm not sure for extreme duty awd, skat has cases for the 205 internals that lighten up the weight, I'm not afraid of prolongled/high speed 4wd usage on the hwy with the 205 with matched open diffs or selectable lockers.
the quadratrac really isn't a bad case if its taken care of and maintained, they have rear off set d44's and some amc20 rears. the strongest AWD t-case built is probably the 203. skat may even have a case for those also, never paid attention...

gm ford and dodge have viscus drive awd, they'd take some babysitting for extreme usage and stink in hardcore wheeling. really the viscus may not be a problem for a track car, the amc eagle case could end up working quite well.

You'll be stuck running an AMC TH400 if you go with the BW 1305. Which is not necessarily bad. I don't think there are any adapters available to run other trannys.

I'm guessing you don't want the BW 1339 which is the same as a 1305 with a low range planetary gear.

Both the front and rear outputs are offset to the passenger side.

the 400 is awesome with a ..... dang forgot.. novak I think (I'll remember later) has a .75 OD unit that goes between the tranny and the t-case.
gear vendor also has a unit that is used by trophy trucks, very spendy though it turns the 3spd auto into a fully 6spd automatic overdrive.

I like the way the 203 sounds, sounds heavy though; I could use some balast, but 300ilbs worth is excess.

Not gonna use the quadratrac; already got the steering, axle, crossmember etc(and the headers were a @#%@#$ nightmare) so I'm gonna stick with a driverside drop.

Can I use the 205?  Is that roadworthy; there isn't exacltly a list of streetable Tcases.  Thanks a lot for the help!

probably not a god idea for the street. the 203 isn't much heavier.

A GM TH400/NP203 with an adapter for the AMC 401 would be an ok choice.

Be careful when buying 203s. Many people just took out the front drive lines and ran them in 4hi loc to make their truck get more mpg. But over time it is death. It causes severe wear.
